I thought I would pass this along. A friend gave this too me so I could have a safe GF green bean casserole.

Take 3 large onions, slice to desired thinness, and soak in 2 cup of milk for 5 min. In a bowl put 2 Cups of GF all purpose flour and dip onion, drop in hot oil and lightly brown. Drain on paper towel. Put in freezer bag to use when needed.

Have you had a chance to try this out? Is it worth the extra effort? Green Bean Casserole has always been a standard during Thanksgiving and Christmas meals at our home and it would be nice to keep it.

Yes, but I have not tried the ones I put in the freezer. If the ones I froze works out I will make a double batch next time. I wasn't making the green bean casserole the first time I tried them, but a steak casserole and really like the results.

Let us know when you use those you froze and how they worked. Thanks.

Funyon's always were GF. I have not checked lately since I do like Green Bean Casserole...even with I wasn't GF.

What a great idea Al. I would have never of thought to use Funyon's. I used to love those as a child. For some reason it was the only potato chip like product my parents ever bought when I was little. Wait, I take that back, they also bought Pork Rinds but I didn't like them. I tried to like them as an adult during my Atkins days....and just couldn't. Neutral

I think I picked that up from a friend of mine JCC on the Braintalk board.

Here's the FritoLay GF list:

I found a container of fried onions at the Asian grocery store that were unbreaded. They are chipped up and I used them in the green bean casserole at Christmas. We enjoyed using them.

I will be interested to know how the op'ers onions hold up in the fridge.

My daughter misses real onion rings, so I make them for her once in a while -- I just dip fresh onion rings (slice some onions, then separate into rings) in GF pancake batter . . . . Mmmmm!

Sorry, I didn't see these posts before I posted in the Manufacturers', Products, section. I used the Funyons in a recipe and they didn't work too well. Thanks for the recipes, though!

I am glad I wasn't the only one. I know I am picky but I just didn't care for them as a topping. Good for a snack though.

Looking for clarification. Have I read that a lot of people have trouble with Fritos? Possibly a cross-contamination issue? I've been avoiding them because I am extremely sensitive to cross-contamination, but perhaps I've avoided them needlessly???

I have seen some that are bothered by cross contaminiation too of Fritolay products. I have not been around to other boards lately to see what the consensus has been. I have fritos & fritolay products - and they don't bother me. BUT...I don't believe I am as terribly sensitive as some.

I guess it's most a matter of personal choice.

Funyuns have monosodium glutanate. Are we not suppose to stay away from MSG because it could contain hidden gluten? I could be wrong but I just thought that I would ask.

I have been confused by this and not long ago I spent a lot of time researching this. Since I will be having tests the 21st I wanted to be sure I came out GF this time. It seems a lot of my reading says that it is a myth that MSG has gluten but in making phone calls to different places and other reading it could have G. I didn't realize that MSG can come from corn or wheat. I had started another link concerning this to see what others had to say. Sorry I didn't check before writing this but looks around on the forum because it seems Al and maybe others had comments.
