I hope everyone has a great day. What are your plans today? I woke up to rose petals going from our bedroom to the kitchen where they was a a vase of roses. My first reaction was what in the world. I should have figured when he went out so late last night(9:45) to get apples he had something on his mind. Yes, he did get apples. Trying to decide what to have for supper. I had planned on my chicken fet., grilled asparagus, green beans, and salad. I would normally have red velvet cake but just can't bring myself to make it because I am watching the lbs. Since there is just the two of us it doesn't freeze well with my kind of frosting. Also don't know how it would taste and I want something good. They have steaks on sale so now I am thinking going that route. I need to go exercise at Curves, hope everyone has a great day with your special someone, friend, hubby or parents. _________________ Donna

LOL!! I guess now is a good time to start!!!
Going thru health issues, tends to make you look at things a bit differently. For all parties involved. Peg's viewpoint has changed and mine has drastically changed. I am sure he is very thankful to have his dear wife back that he once knew.
Just enjoy it and have fun!! _________________ Al

We don't have any plans for today. I could have gone out to eat, but the thought of what happens for the next week made me decide to skip it -- and that meant skipping dinner because there was nothing here to cook. I am to the point that I would rather miss a meal than eat something I think will make me sick.
My husband says "I think there should be something you can eat" which means there is nothing on the menu that is safe and he did not check anything out. Earlier today I watched him eat at Panera Bread and it felt uncomfortable just walking in there. My husband is still not believing in cross contamination or that it really matters if you eat the wrong thing. I felt like the tables, chairs and all the food were covered with a huge glob of gluten trying to attack me for going in the door. |

I attempted to make Gnocci for the first time http://heart.kumu.org/gnocci.html unfortunetly, it ended up tasting like gluten balls. I used rice flour instead of wheat flour. Not sure if that was the problem? I think a deep fryer may be the way to go with this? Waited until the last minute to check my pasta sauces both contained gluten. Tried butter instead as a topping-not the greatest. I ended up grilling burgers with a salad instead. Wife was good about it. My two year old ate the burger only because he knew no left over Dairy Queen ice cream cake from my wifes birthday yesterday(gluten full-wife and kids only) if he didn't. He put up a good fight though . He grabbed a bag of gf chicken coating and made a run for it. He thought it was the gf cookie bag comtaining a cookie I gave him earlier for a snack. Similar bag from Kiniwiniki or something close to it.
I know what you mean about feeling everything around you is gluten. With kids there is always piles of crumbs and bread crusts to pick up. From all the reading here I have become more careful with it. My wife doesn't see the harms in it that I do yet, but she will come around I hope .
happy v-day all,

Jim,
I love gnocchi and haven't had it in years. Your post is making me crave it! There must be a way to make it without having to fry it. Fried gnocchi just seems off to me. I look on the web and in my cookbooks for a recipe. If I find one I'll post it.
When SO cooks for me I always tell myself it's the thought that counts. I'm betting your wife does the same thing.

Donna,
The red velvet cake can be frozen without the frosting and then frosted later. I made some cupcakes just for this reason.
Al,
Your Valentine's Day sounded about as romantic as mine. Ended up at the hospital to visit my failing grandfather. SO was working.

My husband tried to surprise me with dinner. He knew I didn't want to go out and eat, but didn't want me cooking for Valentines Day so he brought home a roasted chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, and potato salad from the Safeway deli. He was so proud that he had found a wheatless dinner for us. He said he even verified with the person at the counter that it did not have wheat in it. I tried to explain gently about hidden gluten, but I think he was disappointed. He really was trying, I felt bad. I did eat a little bit of the chicken and so far haven't had any reactions to it. It is not only a learning curve for you but everyone around you. _________________ Connie

Duh double duh Now why didn't I think of that, glad you did. Thanks
Don't want to make certain people (Al) look bad, just kidding LOL. But you wouldn't believe what hubby brought home for me. I am wondering is he going through a phase or just making up for the past. Or does he just know I am going through a really rough time right now. He has always brought flowers and such but never has done the go beyond romantic stuff. I remember one year I had a nice supper, candles and all and he came in and said, it's a little dark, why the candles, oh, the lights work, he goes and blows out the candles. I didn't say a thing but sure thought it. _________________ Donna
