HI Al,
I am missing fried fish too.
Last Saturday night I decided to have my own fish fry. I bought some haddock and scallops from my local butcher.
I made a mix of Pamelas Ultimate Pancake & baking Mix with some corn meal, dipped the fish in milk then the flour mix and fried it up! Yum, the whole family ate GF that night!
I also baked some Ore Ida Crinkle Cut french fries to top it off.(with the correct UPC code of course!) |

Hey that sounds good!! How did the fish turn out?? We have not gotten around to having our own fish fry yet. It's been 1.5 years since I've had deep fried fish
Glad to see you're checking out those pototoes!! OreIda Tater-Tots are not listed as GF. If you read the ingredients - they look OK, but the company does not say they are.(things may have changed - it's been awhile since I've checked into it). Not too big of a deal for me because the store brand I use are _________________ Al

The fish actually turned out better than I thought it would. In my humble opinion it was almost as good as going out to eat and it wasn't very greasy either. My husband really enjoyed it too. And it was alot cheaper!
Tonight I made Chicken Parmesian. I used the same breading, then after I fried the chicken I put Prego Spaghetti sauce and Sargento Shredded cheese on and popped it in the oven to melt the cheese, it was very good also.
Don't know what's going to happen to me if I keep frying everything, but it sure tastes good!!
I don't think the Tater Tots are GF either. What is the brand you buy? My daughter likes them but I haven't found any yet that she can have. |

I buy Ore-Ida Tator Tots and have eaten them for about a year now and they haven't bothered me. Even though they company doesn't know, doesn't make them have gluten in them....if the ingredients are o.k. then give it a try. Let me know if you hear anything differently...hope that helps! |

Thanks for the info.
I'm glad the Ore Ida brand is not bothering you, but my daughter is doing so well, I don't want to take any chances with her.
I did find a brand called "365" at Whole Foods Market and they are very good. |

Yes I completely understand about not taking in chances. It took me a year after I was diagnosed to figured most things out and I have the same thoughts at times about myself - I don't want to do anything that could cause me to get sick because I have been so well for a while now. I wish I had a Whole Foods Market close to where I live, but I don't. That is the challenge for me - actually finding things I can eat. |

Went to Outback Steakhouse last night...the BBQ chicken was fantastic. Steamed veggies were also very tasty.
I've been to PF Changs a few times now as well, and the Gluten Free Lettuce Wraps are just as good (if not better) than the regular ones. Also the Chang's Spicy Chicken is unreal.
Has anyone tried the ENER-G rice loaves? They're awful. Like eating a new sponge... Is there bread (that I wouldn't have to bake) that isn't terrible? I really like sandwiches. |

Yes GGACK!!! That was the very 1st GF thing I tried. I thought I was in trouble after that. Yes a sponge would be appropriate...I thought styrofoam. Maybe mine was an old loaf
Your best bet is to see if you can find some Kinnickinick breads. They are usually in the freezer section of a health food store. Their pizza crusts are good, their hambuger buns are good, their cake donuts are good (Mmmmm dooo-nuuuts). I dont know if they have actual loaves of bread.
Or if you are lucky enough...many times a healthfood store will have local specialty bakers make GF items (bread, cookies, etc) _________________ Al

No more GF Menu at Texas Roadhouse!!
| Quote: | September 25, 2006: Texas Roadhouse - all items:
Texas Roadhouse restaurant has withdrawn its gluten free menu. They are now issuing the following statement instead: "At Texas Roadhouse, our mission is Legendary Food, Legendary Service. Each and every day, we strive to provide our guests with homemade food and hand-cut steaks served piping hot by a friendly, energetic staff. We realize that some individuals suffer from allergic reactions or have an intolerance to various foods or ingredients, such as peanuts, MSG or gluten. While we understand these situations, we have conducted an extensive review of our food preparation procedures and concluded that because of certain risks, such as the multiple-use of utensils or human error, we can't provide a 100% guarantee that our food will not contain some allergens. While we realize this will be an inconvenience to some, we strive to keep guests apprised of the company's position so that they can make informed decisions for their family." |
Thanks Anne for finding this.
