My family that most of them are sick are such a help. I talked to my mom today to tell her whats going on with all the new stuff I've been reading, and that I think I'm figuring this food stuff out. she said don't read to much, you might find out your dying, gee thanks mom. My sister that lives in town, that knows everything thats going on with me. we went out of town for a funeral and I could'nt find anything to eat at the funeral, she told me to stop being such a baby a little is'nt going to kill you, and my favorite, she told me "why don't you just have some pasta salad, that does'nt have flour in it" WHAT? I asked her "what exactly do you think they make pasta out of?" She tried going gf for a week to see if she felt better. It consisted of cutting actual Bread out of her diet. Hum, wounder why it didn't make any differance? I guess I was ignorant at one time about food. But can you say stupid? My entire family is seriously obese. I am 130 pounds. They think me and my daughter has eating issues. I do but its not what they think. SCREAM...... Thanks for listening carey _________________ Dear Lord, Please help me help my stupid self. |

Carey....if it makes you feel any better....when I told my mother that you had to cut out wheat, the kind that was in white bread (her food choice she obviously has problems giving up) she got a tad upset and said, "There isn't ANY wheat in white bread!" I calmly replied..."What do you think it's made of? Meringue?????" She didn't appreciate my humor.... |

Hi,
I have had diabetes for 31 years and have had similar comments in that area-lol. The celiac disease is to new for my family members, but people at work leave no grace period-anything goes-lol. You can't change your family so have fun with it and hang tough.
take care,
Jim |

| I am actually laughing at all the dumb things they say. It is not getting me down, pisses me off sometimes, but not getting down. My sister had a really great idea the other day, she thinks that if I'm getting more food allergies it would probably be a good idea to eat as much of what you are allergic to as you can so your body gets immuned to it, and a friend of mine today thought if I started eating wheat again all my other allergies would go away, that going off the wheat caused all this. Hey these guys should be licensed dr.s in Idaho, they have helped about as much as my dr. has. But since going off corn. I think some of the fog has lifted. Thank you dear lord.....Keep up the good fight. Carey |

I am new at this but have a couple of questions and comments. I would appreciate any insight all of you might have. I was dx in April of 2005 gluten intolerant after years of headaches, fainting,a few convulsions and bowel problems. Dating back to my childhood about 10 I guess. I stop fainting and having convulsion about 18 yrs. old. Headaches all my life, except now they are few and far between since going gf (thank God). One of my question is what I call a leaky butt part of it? There isn't any matter to what comes out just a watery off colored fluid. I get this along with hemmorhoids internal and external. Also from what I read little bumps are part of it right? They are little cluster sometime single bumps, sometime bright red. On my face there is little red spots that are always there and sort of lightly fluid filled almost wart like small bumps. Are this part of it too? Then the big question I have all ways worked and taken care of my mother's affairs and done the day to day housewife things now I feel like everything is pretty much a push for me. Oh I still do it but my heart isn't in any of it. I find that a 3 hour nap is great! My face is alway pale and bags under my eyes. Sound like a pretty picture! As I am writing this I'm snickering, but it's all true! I have also notice my hair sheds about a drain full every one or two time I wash it.
Is any or all of this normal for us? Do others have these problems? Also I am a breakfast waitress could I be being glutenated each time I work? I will be more than anxious for your input.
Thanks for listening
Ihope I put this in the right subject matter.

Dear god please give me strength!!!!!! My mom and sisters are in town which means you have to go out to eat atleast one meal every day. I am having problems with so many foods I don't dare go eat any where that someone else decides what goes in the food. And they are all getting mad at me for not going. My sister that lives here that knows my problems gave me that snide" there is'nt one thing in this whole town that you can't eat? give me a break" Well, I hope there names are not in the newspaper tomorrow, cause I don't know what they feed the inmates here!! okay breath deep, I will not kill my family. I will not kill my family. I will not kill my family. Oh yes I feel much better now. I think I'll just go eat another yummy baked potato, oh yum. Thanks for listening, hahaha carey _________________ Dear Lord, Please help me help my stupid self. |

Sounds like you might still have some undiagnosed allergies or perhaps are getting gluten from somewhere. Try checking your shampoo, soap, toothpaste, body and hand lotions. We've had trouble with barley in shampoo and avenin (oat protein) in body lotion. We've had better luck going grain-free from time to time and eating as little processed food as we can. Fresh fruits and some vegies can be eaten raw, vegies can be microwave steamed, etc, and there's no worry as to whether they have gluten. Also, do you share kitchen space/utensils with people who eat gluten? If so, you need to keep a separate butter dish, separate toaster, etc. If you're getting any crumbs anywhere it'll keep you sick.
Gluten intolerance is sneaky -- you get more sensitive as time goes on. Hope you start feeling better! |

I have a 4 slicer toaster which one half is mine and the other for my husband. As to shampoo's, soaps, lotions and toothpaste. I have already switch those months ago after learning that those too can be bothersome and found out they were. So Mongoose, you are thinking much like myself that other allergies or undiagnosed allergies maybe causing some of my other symptoms. I hate sounding so much like a fussy baby but with so much happening all the time it's like chasing yourself in a circle. Thank you for your imput |

Mimski, it sounds like you have dermatitis herpetaformis, the skin condition associated with celiac and gluten in your system. They are little water filled blisters that appear on the face, elbows, knees. My husband has this problem and has to take medicine for it on a regular basis. _________________ Judy

| So Judy and Jeannine if I understand you correctly, if the 4 slicer toaster isn't good along with other people's wheaty hands. Then my work is not healthy for me either. Breakfast waitress (handling toast) and such. My husband for the most part eats what I eat. Not always though. I go to my doctor on the 15th of March. I will discuss the blisters with her. I now think that I have figured out why I was feeling so lousy. I was told I could resume yeast. But since then I have had to be on antibotics twice. I think that is some of my problems of recurring symptoms of Candida. I am confuse though about two different things. Maybe you can help. I have read in some places that rice is good but not short grain rice, Correct? Also buckwheat okay or not? There is so much to learn still and I've been at this just months shy of a year. I'm going to my first Celiac meeting March 6. Needless to say I'm excited and anxious to learn how to take care of myself better. Thanks for your support. Oh about B12 I've just started taken it. It helps ! |

Hi Mimski,
All plain rice is OK. Like Jeannie said - If it's in a mix with "other things", it may not be GF. Some rice is healthier for you and has better nutrient content. Brown rice is better than white rice.

Buckwheat is GF. It not not wheat, but a member of the rhubarb family. See Our discusson on Wheat vs Buckwheat
See what Dr. Weil has to say about buckwheat
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckwheat
As for handling grains...I'd say most of the GF people I know...handle most grains perfectly fine. As I said before, some people feel better with removing ALL grains.
Yeast can be an issue for some people as well.
Yes there is a steep learning curve to all of this. Particularly if there are multiple food issues!!
Keep at it!! _________________ Al
