I have a 6 month old baby who is just starting solid foods. Since I have a gluten allergy should I avoid giving her any gluten containing foods until she is at least 1 year old? Anyone know of gluten free baby foods such as teething biscuits, etc. I think a diet of just rice cereal, fruits, and veggies might be boring for her.

Studies have shown that introducing gluten before 4 months and after 6 months increases the chance for kids that are prone to celiac to develop it later in life. So now is the time to begin introducing gluten. Here is an article: http://www.swedish.org/111415.cfm

I am 19 weeks pregnant, so I don't need them yet, but I haven't been able to locate any biter biscuits or baby cookies that are GF.

For what it's worth, I have 2 older kids and I introduced solids for both of them at 6 months. One developed celiac and one didn't.

Hope this helps you.

I am resurrecting this old post to say that I found some GF biter biscuits. They are made by Hot Kid, the same company that makes rice crackers. They have them at Amazon, but I got mine at Fred Meyer. You can add water to them to make baby cereal or feed them to the baby like a cracker. I ate one, and they are kind of like a big, soft, sweet rice cracker. They say GF right on the package. Hope this helps someone.
