This was the biggest spam attack this place has ever seen. They hit almost every single forum.
Geez, I step out to a college play...and they move in!!

Last night before I went to bed, I saw the attack. It looked like they were starting to post on every thread. I knew you were going to have your work cut out for you when you found it.
Thanks for keeping the place clean!
Is it possible that we need to go through an email approval before you can post? Would that help? I know that it would slow down new CD patients getting approved, but it would help weed out the spammers...........then their IP could be banned.

Yeah I saw this just before I went to bed. I felt bad for you Al. I knew it was going to be some work for you. And yes also thanks from me for helping keeping this place clean. I will never understand why they have to trash everyplace they can.

There are some updates to do that. Yes I feel it would help tremendously, particularly in this case because they were "guests". I had been talking to Admin about installing them. I'm not sure where that is at. I did send him a PM at 2:00am this morning about it

Sorry gang!! There's just no way I can keep up when it's 30,40,50,60...129 against one. I saw 177 as the Max number of visitors, but now the number is at 129...strange
I had been deleting posts for .5 hrs and there were 320 MORE than when I started!!! This is just nuts.
I'm afraid if they don't put some deterrents in place...our "home" will crumble.

I don't know how to delete posts. All I know is how to erase them more or less with the back space. I don't feel what was written here needs to stay. Thanks for your support.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this attack. Can't the Admins turn guest posting off, so you have to be registered to post? That would calm this I think.

Hi Jeff,
Yes they could...but (I suspect) they would need updated software to do this. Way back BEFORE admin gave me mod status, we discussed installing those type of updates. There were several updates. 1) A registration process that requires you to respond to an email. 2) Only registered users could post 3) Visual Confirmation of a Post (this would require us to type in a visible code (spambots would not know/see this).

I don't have any more info about the other board. I spent almost all of Sunday writing some software to help backup the data that's out here. I have many threads done already.
Maybe in the next day or so I can get back to looking at that. I felt the 1st priority was to get the data off of here just in case...

There were right around 1300 posts.
