Great article, alot of info. Gotta reread it a couple times to grasp everthing. I have to go in for my Endoscopy end of month I was wondering then after reading article if I should have the small intestine biopsy done also & have Dr look at stomach lining (villi ) etc. I have barrets esophagus...which could be typical with people with Celiac type diseases. Like you Al I was never DX with true celiac but more with wheat/gluten intolerance through food allergy testing. The blood panel for celiac came back negative. So would the biopsy help for a better DX at this time. Since if have to go in for endo anyway. I also noted the article talked about lactose & fructose intolerance. I know lactose bothers me and it seems sometimes when I eat fruit my GERD or acid reflux stuff kicks in. Would this be a suspicion of a fructose intolerance. Or how does one really know if they are fructose intolerant. Can you eat fruit again after going GF for awhile and things settle down, or are you fructose intolerant for the rest of your life? This would suck...I love fruit and it's healthy for you. I need all the vitamins I can get. thanks TJ

Hi TJ,

Yeah...if you are going in for a scope...ask them to take samples for CD. That's what I did. I requested it when I was laying on the table before they put me under. Smile

Ask them how many samples they generally take. They really should be taking between 6 & 10 samples. They need to take enough samples and in different spots because damage can be patchy.

BUT...if you've been GF...it might not show much.

Here's some basic testing info:

I don't really know anything about fructose intolrance.

Good luck with the scope!! We'll be thinking about ya. Let us know how it goes!!
