I am trying a new recipe and am stuck. Hubby not available to answer question as if he knows about cooking, but does know about chemistry. Question my recipe calls for cider vinegar; can I use regular vinegar?

Yes, you should be able to use regular vinegar. The cider will just make it a bit more sweet. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

sorry for a slightly tangential post - but I thought ordinary vinegar was unusable in a gluten-free diet. Or at least I assumed so given its made from malt? I've been using cider vinegar on my chips (fries) |

Malt vinager is out because it is not distilled. Cider vinegar, white vineager, rice vinegar, etc. are distilled which renders them GF. _________________ -Colleen

Just a bit of clarification here on "regular" vinegar. The Regular vinegar that is being discussed is distilled - thus making it GF. I don't know about vinegar's in the UK.
Yup - still need to stay away from malt vingear _________________ Al

| here, in the UK, vinegar is what we put on our chips (fries) and almost all of us do that. Its malt vinegar. The only other vinegars that are in common usage really are balsamic and white wine vinegar. I had to order cider vinegar from a health food shop. |

Yeah, that's what I meant by "regular vinegar". Sorry about that!  _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={
