| I finally got into see an allergist. I questioned him as to all my problems after a cat scan where they used Iodine contrast intravenous. I have had hives, skin infections and scabs from scratching, and Just feeling sick for 7 months. My doctor said no way the iodine triggered this allergic problem. I thought maybe a gluten intolerance. This allergist said" yes" it is possible. I will have the following test done. IgE, Complete Metabolic panel, CBC w diff w ptt, (Sed Rate,Westergren), and urinalysis done. ...He said they will contact me if a solution to my problem is found.. Are any of these tests used for testing gluten problems? I'm thinking of just going ahead and doing a gluten free diet. He just prescribed zyrtec allery tabs for now. He did a skin scratch test and said I do have a reaction in my skin . I'd rather find a reason and not just treat the symptoms. Carolyn |

Hi Carolyn,
Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Don't go on a GF diet before you get your tests done... they will skew the results. Please see the sticky threads at the top of the diagonstic topic for loads of basic informtion on CD... and you'll probably want to look closly at the Celiac Blood Work Tests for specific information as to what you should be tested on first. The most difinative test would be a biopsy of the small intestine. Welcome to the board, we're all hoping you feel better soon... _________________ Cheers!

Carolyn,
To answer your question. No I didn't see any tests that are part of a celiac panel. If you can at all help it - don't go GF until you get some testing done. If you go off gluten, it only means you'll have to go back on to get proper testing. Many will not go back on once they've been off.
Glad you found the info helpful. Let us know how things go! _________________ Al
