Question I am newly diagnose in October with Celiac disease and am having a hard time with bloating beginning after a gluten free meal and cramping. I am ok in am. but look like a marshmallow at night. Is this normal?

No it is not normal after G/f meal I was D/X in dec of 04. I'm still getting the bloating after a meal I'm totally G/F there is something else that is going on. I would ask ur Dr. about it u may be getting some gluten somewhere. I have the same problem but I told my Dr. that I'm so tired of test that I want something done. So he ordered the pill it is a pill with a camera in it u take with a glass of water they put a belt with a transmitter on it the camera takes 60,000 pics in 8 hrs. this proceedure picks up what the CAT scans, MRI's & x-rays miss Very Happy . I also have a hiatial hernia which plays a role in the bloating.

stay healthy and ask alot of questions to the Dr. & on this forum u will get alot more answers on this forum

Hi Jan,

Sorry to hear that you still not feeling well. Like Maria said - it maybe possible it's hidden gluten. Can you tell us what you had? Maybe we could spot something.

Just starting out, it's very easy to make mistakes (even if you've been doing for awhile - mistakes can happen Embarassed ). Gluten can be very sneaking - hiding in things you never expected. Have you seen The Safe & Forbidden Food Ingredients List? These lists are very helpful - they tell you ingredients you can have and what ingredients to stay away from. I took these to the store with me for 2-3 months - until I got to know the list.

Good luck!!

I have taken to just avoiding caramel coloring to be extra sure I am not getting hidden gluten. It just isn't worth it. I did read somewhere that all of the caramel coloring in Coca Cola is safe, but I have no proof either way yet, personally.

FWIW - any GF lists I've seen - Coke & Pepsi products are listed as safe. It never hurts to be cautious!!!
