We are going on a vacation this summer (mid June) to South Dakota. My husband has his class reunion in Pierre, then we hope to spend some time in the Black Hills. It will be our first 'long' trip since my daughter was dx'ed, so it might be a bit of a challenge. We're thinking of staying in a cabin, so that we can do most of our own cooking. I hope the five of us can put up with each other that long in our car! _________________ Kim --

Sounds very fun! WHat year reunion is this for him? I've never been to any of mine (I was class of 1974).
Oh, a cabin sounds fun! And how many days or hours in a car will it be? |

It appears my family is planning to go to the beach for a week and of course I'm expected to go. It's a great idea and all, but to tell you the truth, I kinda dread it with my family. They aren't as understanding and they could be with the GF thing and are very good at making me feel like a huge inconvenience and a hinderance to them. There's just no need to make me feel like such a burden. Sorry to be so negative; that's just how vacations for me are with my family. _________________ Sarah

No apologies needed here -- if you can't come here to tell it like it is, who can you tell??
I think a lot of us have families that are weird about our CD. Pack some good stuff for yourself, and enjoy it the best you can. |

We're not doing a summer vacation because we're going on our honeymoon (Alaskan cruise) in the fall. Now I just have to tell our travel agent about my new diet! _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

We are heading for the lovely mountains of southeastern Tennessee. We have some dear friends who have a big house near Sewanee (University of the South) - they do a retreat for clergy and spouses. Between my life as a deacon and my newly diagnosed sprue, my DH has had a very tough year -we are ready.
I'm taking GF pasta and baking mixes with me so they don't have to completely rearrange their kitchen while we're there. _________________ "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessalonians 5:18 |

In addition to fods, take your own pans and utensils, so you don't have to worry about what was cooked in their pans last. I got glutend that way once, a long time ago. |

In a galaxy far far away...
Well, I'm not sure this is a vacation...but we are going to CO for my God Daugther's wedding in August. We are calling this a (another) family trip We will have my Mother in-tow. My neice wanted me to be their photographer for the big event. I am touched that she asked me to do it! I just hope that I don't get sick and can't make it!!!! She was very excited that we offered to do it for their wedding present.
We are hoping to meet up with a few old GF friends in Deby's GF bakery and maybe a few new ones. The wedding will be Aug. 5th. We have not yet set the official intinerary yet. We don't know if we'll try to be a Deby's before the wedding (before Friday or on Monday). _________________ Al

Bear Country, USA was fun
Touring one of the Black Hills Gold Jewerly making places - that was neat if you like that type of stuff. _________________ Al

I'm not sure how to ask this . . . maybe I should just shut up right now? I'm just wondering if something is wrong, where you are wondering if you'll be healthy or sick in August, and therefore able or unable to make to the wedding. (If it's nosy or something just delete my post!) Is everything okay with you?
Colorado is beautiful -- I lived there for 5 years, back in the 80's. Coincidentally, I just got an email about 15 minutes ago, asking me if I'd be interested in teaching there (in Denver). |

LOL! You are so sweet Lex - thanks for your concern!!
No I am fine!! It's my silly brain...I tend to extrapolate events out in my head. I was thinking...they plan for me to do this...they won't book a real photographer...I can't make it for whatever reason (diverticulitis flare could happen)...they wind up getting screwed!!!
There...once again you get another glimpse inside the Brain of Al...as scary as that may be
I lived in Denver for a few months in 1982 after graduating from tech. college. Couldnt find a job, ran out of $$. Move back home had a job in 1 wk. Go figure... _________________ Al

OK, relieved to hear that.
We are very different critters! Are you a type A, by any chance? I thought I was, but people like you prove me wrong (or you're a AA, or AAA? )!
I only say that (we're very 'different critters') because I never think that way, never make a back-up plan, and haven't ever stopped to wonder what others would do if my marrow took a big dive or something . . . Now you're going to make me start rethinking everything, Al. I normally buy nonrefundable airline tickets, never buy travel-cancellation insurance, never make any back up plans . . .
But I also don't have diverticulitis . . . that could really slow you down, right?? |

Oh, I've read plenty of them in the past months . . . Don't rush to elaborate -- we all know you pretty well!
You know I'm kidding -- what would we do without your critterly brain, Al? |
