Can anyone give me some tips or advice for camping w/ Celiac's. I will be going with a group that is not Celiac. Do I need to get my own cooler, or can I just buy a large plastic container to put my food in (in the cooler)? What can I cook for my meals, besides grilled chicken? I am stumped on what to do, as space is limited and I can not take my whole kitchen with me. I would appreciate any ideas.

Hi Grumpie,

I'm not much of a camper...but I'll see what I can remember from my youth. Smile

Keeping your food seperate is a must. If the container seals tight you'd probably be ok. Although a seperate cooler might be nice (some would say required).

Cooking utensils & pots/pans - anything porous (wood, cast iron, non-stick coated pans) can not be use in GF cooking after it has been used in nonGF cooking (even after washing).

I don't know how you cook...but we would make packet meals. Meat, veggies in aluminium foil and throw it in/around the fire. You could make up the packets ahead of time.

Oscar Meyer hotdogs are GF for a weenie roast

How 'bout this...http://www.sazs.com/bbq/packaged.html. Saz's BBQ ribs & pork that is GF. I've had the pork - it's good. The BBQ sauce is on the sweet side. I prefer it less sweet...but it's good. This might be easy to heat up. Ribs are fully cooked - ready to eat in 15min! Wouldn't you be the envy showing up with BBQ ribs!! You'd have to fend them off with your fire poker stick!! Smile

What's camping w/o smores!! http://www.clanthompson.com/exp_cook_showqa.php3?question_id=25&category=Substitutions&category_id=2

Here's some quick an easy food from GF Pantry: Meal in a cup!!

I hope this helps!! Have fun camping. Let us know how it goes!!
