Is that the word I want? Homepage?

In other words, when you pull up the Internet, what page do you have set to show up on your screen?

(Correct my terminology if I have the words wrong, please? And I'll edit it! Very Happy )

I have http://www.itsyourturn.com

Looking forward to hearing what others have their computer set to. Smile

Google.ca
I'm not quite sure how it's different from dot com, it just goes to dot ca, so that's what I made my homepage.

Nothing. No offense, but homepages annoy me. I'd rather just have a nice, blank browser to work with. Smile

I also use Firefox.

Yahoo.

I'm a big dork and I like that I can set it to display all the latest science, medical, and astronomy news. If that doesn't satisfy me, I can page down to the latest Hollywood gossip - usually juicier, but not near as beneficial and dork-e-cool as the actual news items. Cool

OK, I will be honest about my ignorance in this area (I' think I'm always more than honest about my ignorance in whatever applies, especially baking, as today's recipe thread shows!).

Anyway, I hope this doesn't sound annoying, but what do you mean a blank browser page? Doesn't something have to come up when you click on Explorer (or whatever browser you use)? No? It can be blank? And why not have your favorite page come up -- be it this forum, or email, or a gaming page? What's so annoying about your favorite website coming up? Rolling Eyes Help me, Ostrich!

I didn't know it could come up blank either. That's another perk to my Yahoo page . . . whatever it is I intend to search for, I've got the cute little box right there to type it in.

The advantage of having the home page be blank is that your browser loads faster. You can set that by (this is Internet Explorer - if you have another browser, then you'll have to check the instructions)

click on Tools
click on Internet Options (at the bottom)
first question is about changing your home page - select the tab that says "use blank"

There's also a My Tabs feature that when you click on the the "little house" will load 3 of your favorite web pages.

I'm with Purr - a blank page so I don't have to wait for it to load. I have google search bar in my browser (Apple's Safari).

It depends which computer I'm on...
Rolling Eyes

On my desktop PC at home, it's Optimum Online because that's my service provider and I just decided to leave it. It's easier to contact them that way, as the information is all right at my fingertips...literally. Wink

On my laptop, it's just the plain apple.com page. I haven't bothered to change it yet...I'm usually on the homepage for all of about a second, so I don't pay it much mind...

On my work computer, we can't really change it without someone raising a stink about it, so we all have the corporate Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Web site as our homepages.

Yeah, I know--pretty boring... Embarassed

I'm just happy that it's Tuesday and I got 2 new CDs: TOOL and Pearl Jam. Very Happy Two incredibly awesome bands!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm updating my iTunes as I type. Laughing

Hi there,
Mine opens right up to AOL's homepage. I like my desktop better, it is a picture from the holidays of my hubby and me :>)

Exactly! And then you can go wherever you want! Very Happy

If you're using FireFox, it's under Tools -> Options -> General tab. Simply set the homepage to "blank", then click on OK.

I use Mozilla Firefox, because it loads faster and my computer guru told me it was safer than internet explorer when he set up my DSL. When I used Internet Explorer it was yahoo.com because thats where my e-mail is and its also where I go to get news, we don't get a newspaper.

Edit to correct errors in grammar, i.e. proper use of capitals for nouns. How did you know that this was my WORST subject in school? Embarassed I never could diagram a sentence. I can however spell and thats more than they teach my 14 year olds down here in Florida.

No I wasn't offended Lexi, it just occured to me that if I caught my boys spelling something wrong I would make them correct it so I should also. Rolling Eyes

Well, I've learned two things today . .

One, I must be a creature of habit who likes to have fun first, because always play my backgammon games right off, then check my email, and then move on to stuff that I have to do . . . and

Two, I must have fast Internet, because I tested it today searching for all sorts of pages, and all of them load in less than a second, including my homepage when I click my Explorer icon. So, I guess I don't need a blank page to save waiting time. (I have cable Internet.)

Trivia -- did you know that Internet is a proper noun, and is therefore capitalized? Yup! I always get my students on that one, on their papers.

Your computer guru was right, it is safer than Internet Explorer. It also allows for tabbed-based browsing, which is wonderful if you're one of those people that have multiple windows open all the time.

Just FYI, it's also easier to create websites for FireFox. You can always tell when a site's been poorly designed if it tells you "best used with IE".
