Wow. I haven't been here in a while, we've been going through some issues with our daughter. But, it kind of "stings" a little bit when you faith is ridiculed. As a Catholic, I sincerely take to heart the fact that my daughter may end up being denied traditional eucharist becuase of the possiblity of Celiac. I am aware of the low gluten hosts, but don't know how much of an option that will be.

I would never openly poke fun at someone else's religions, faith, lack of faith, or any personal choices that person may have. I feel a bit sad reading this after having been gone a while...and then coming back in need of support.

Kathy, you are right. I was in a bad place when I stopped by here. Under normal circumstances, the communion post issues would have just "rolled right off" of me. Being that I've been sleep deprived and really stressed about my daughter - I was taking things much to much to heart.

At my church we have gluten free wafers, and non alcoholic wine.

We don't believe the bread and the wine is a literal thing, but a symbolic thing.

We do it in rememberence of what He did for us.

I haven't been able to keep up here in recent months as much as I'd like, and so I just recently came upon this thread and saw its . . . origin. I've been hesitant to say much recently, but it's time to get over that load of crap and say what I want to say.

I want to extend my deepest and most sincere apologies to anyone and everyone I may have offended. That was certainly not my intent. I joke around about things all the time, that's just how I deal with stuff; my friends know me well enough to know how I am and yes, we do joke about things like that with each other because we know it's not at all serious. Only now have realized how inappropriate it can be. I had gotten comfortable enough on here to say things that I probably wouldn't under other circumstances, and I made the mistake of thinking we were all friendly enough to know it was not to be taken seriously when it's even stated at the end and not be offended by it. Again, I was wrong and I apologize. I clearly don't know when it's time to be serious and what topics should not be joked about.

Since I had come to use a great deal of what I thought was "humor" around here, I can only imagine how many other things I have probably said that offended others as well who have just not spoken up. I want to go ahead and apologize for that, too. I really, really don't mean to offend anyone about anything. I am not THAT lacking in the respect department, nor in sensitivity; or at least I don't think/hope I am. Please don't judge me too harshly, although whatever it is, I'm sure it's just at this point. I didn't realize how awful I could be without knowing it. I just try to bring a little "humor" into everything, but again, I realize that it can be very inappropriate and I apologize for it all.

Very, very few things in my life have brought me to tears and very few things can, but this has. I am TRUELY VERY SORRY for all of the offense people have taken, for all the pain and hurt I've caused, and probably a list of other things that I can't even think of. I am very ashamed of the way I have spoken around here, and I am very, very sorry for it all.

I'm also sorry this is so long-winded; y'all have probably become accustomed to that from me by this point. In closing though, I'd like to say that I have learned my lesson, and I thank those for pointing it out to me before I did anymore damage. I will be much, much more reserved in my comments from here on out, and I will be even more cautious about my brand of "humor," since it is clearly anything but. I'll keep up with the threads and all, I'll probably just be a little quieter.

Again, I apologize to everyone I've offended. Please understand that I sincerely regret what I said and I never meant to offend or hurt anyone.

I just spoke to a representative from The Australian Coeliac Society here.

She told me that the low gluten communion wafers contain approximately 27ppm. She said that due to how big they are, studies have shown that most Coeliacs can have up to 10mg of gluten a day and not be affected, and these are considerably a lot lower and are very small. She said that The Coeliac Society over here have approved the low gluten communion wafers for consumption once a week.

Like ostrich, I poke fun at my own religion. It's pretty easy since I was raised southern baptist and that usually creates a lot of issues. I'll probably end up methodist, but I can't be sure since I'm in a wacky liberal college town and the experience in each denomination will be very different when I get to a more normal place.
