Hi Sassy, I have had T1 Diabetes for 13 years. I've had depression since I was around 9-ish. Many immune system diseases (such as diabetes and celiac) are apparently related and/or linked. I believe IBS is also an immune system disease. Diabetes and Celiac have a definite established link, mostly in T1. Are you T1 or T2?
I have only become aware of celiac about 10-11 months ago and am still pursuing a diagnosis. I'm sorry that you are feeling so ill. Have you been firmly diagnosed? Is your doctor working with you to figure out how to treat your symptoms and/or referring you to the appropriate specialists? I have learned with Diabetes you have to become a very-proactive patient and I think it's the same w/ Celiac. Easier said than done sometimes, I realize.
Don't know if anything I've said will help you, but at least you know you're not the only one.

Hi Sassy,
Sorry to hear that you have been feeling so ill for so long. Hopefully you can find some answers. Stick with your knowledge quest...it can pay off.
There are links to other auto immune diseases, gastro issues, migranes, depression, neurological issues...the list goes on...some 250 symptoms can be attributed to CD or gluten sensitivity. CD is called the Great Imitator - because it is so often missed diagnosed.
Might I suggest you start here: The Gluten File This is a huge collection of info that would be impossible for me to duplicate. Check out posts #3 & #4.
Hang in there!! _________________ Al

Thank you for suggesting the gluten file. I am reading it and going to the links. I am type 2 diabetic. But on my gosh....... so many things that have made me feel sick or depressed so many things can all be attibuted to my celiacs. Not sure if I should stay with the same doctor or find someone else. Is there a thread about what kind of doc should treat you so you can get all your symtoms treated by the same doc instead of going to four different for ten different meds that put you to sleep for hours?
I am so glad I found this place..... found one like it when I had to have my hysterectomy too..... please keep giving me info and places to go.. it helps to have people reply that understand.... |

You bring up a very good point. Unforturnately finding doctors that are knowledgable about CD & GS is another story. A lot have never heard about it. Other know a little about it - if you're "lucky" enough to have the classic symptoms - they MIGHT test for it. If your current doctor doesn't know or is unwilling to learn...then it might be time for look for another.
Celiac Doctors. More Celiac Docs I dont know where you are...but this might be a start. One other place is a recomendation from a local CD support group (Thanks Anne from BrainTalk): Support Groups
Regardless...continue to learn as much as you can about it. _________________ Al
