backpacking food

My son is going to be on a crew this summer working in national parks and camping out with a crew. I think accessibility to fresh food will be somewhat limited. Does anyone have any ideas for some GF freeze dried or other good camping foods that can be used with limited cooking utensils, campfires, etc.?

They don't make complete meals, but you could always send him with some GF jerky and trail mix.

Wow - sounds like work!! A million years ago, I had a girlfriend that did something similar (worked in state parks on crew. building stairs, paths, painting, feeding the wild bears, etc). I bet it'll be a good experience for him.

Larabars are Gf and can be found every where now. My gf daughter loves them

Some of the Thai Kitchen noodle bowls and noodle cart entrees are gluten free. I bring them to work all the time as they are really easy (and cheap). Just add hot water. Not really a complete meal but a good start.

I use the Thai Kitchen and then add a small can of chicken or vegetables or both when I want to make a more complete meal. I also used to use boil-in-bag rice on camping trips with chicken broth, canned meat and vegetables. A lot depends on how much room he is going to have to take things and how remote their campsites are going to be.

As far as a snack, ener-g has really good pretzels. Sorry I don't know of any freeze dried items.
