Hello all
I want to thank you on information about buckwheat and on rice. Also Mongoose after you asked me about shampoo and such I did a double check on them. Guess what, in my lotion there is oat protein in it. Thanks for mentioning it. I probably wouldn't have looked again at it. What do you all use? That's not heavy scented? Thanks for the links! |

No, I'll speak for all of us when I say it's fine to start your own post -- I'm sure Al just meant that you could read others' posts on the subject as well.
I actually think it's good to start your own, for two reasons:
One, the topic sometimes wanders (this one was on shampoo last I looked),
and two, some of us read a post once, leave a response, and don't go back to it, so a new thread attached to someone else's post gets missed.
So better to start your own, but deffo read the old ones to see how others are dealing with it. |

Yup - thanks Lex!!
It's not a problem to post stuff in other places. We don't get to uptight about stuff like that. The layout of this place is confusing at 1st. Heck - I still lose stuff out here LOL!!! _________________ Al

This is a good thread...Thanks Carey for starting it.
I spent a week with the family during Christmas and was frustrated b/c I was bloated, puffed, with stomach ache but didn't know what was the source of Gluten contamination. The last few days I just ate plain rice and salad (no dressing).
Be strong.
I kept some gluten-free snacks with me...it provided a bit of comfort. |

I know Ostrich posted a link to her original post, but I wanted to make sure it was really visible to link these 2 threads together. This type of thing is all too common and too important not to be visible.

All right, more links! The more info I can get, the better!
I have no clue what I'm gonna do for holidays. I'm sure my stomach will be miserable. Perhaps they'll let me bring my own stuffing... |

I offered to provide the bread for the stuffing this last Christmas. I baked it, cubed it and delivered it to my MIL ahead of time. The taste was exactly the same as their gluten stuffing. If you make it less work for people, they will be more likely to accept it.
Just an idea for you to think about... _________________ -Colleen

| I don't know if they'd be willing to give up their seafood stuffing, but I can sure try. |

Bring your own "everything!" I wouldn't worry any longer about offending someone who so blatantly ridiculed and mocked you. (My mother does the same!) One, you don't want to eat turkey that had gluten-stuffing in it, or risk much cross-contamination, and two, it's just so much easier to not worry about every little bite, or to skip everything. Last year I even made pies using GF Pantry's pie crust mix. THere was nothing missing and we have a completely GF household.
So, make your own dinner, bring a massive plate of it, and bring yourself an entire GF pie! |

Hahaha, a whole pie all to myself? You're spoiling me
I'm not too worried about things like Thanksgiving. My husband isn't a big turkey fan, so I'm sure we could bring some little chickens and GF stuffing. But I will miss my mom's Easter bread. |

I got a good chuckle out of that, whole pie for yourself. I bake GF muffins for a quick breakfast, and I always tell the boys that the stuff tastes gross (of course on occasion I'm not lying) so that they don't eat it all, but they've caught on and now fresh from the oven they get to indulge, and whatever is left I get to store and eat for breakfast.
They loved it back before my husband and I decided to loose weight, I was making cookies and blondie brownies (their favorite), cake etc, every weekend we had a treat. So if you want the whole pie you'd better let them know how terrible it is and then laugh yourself all the way home full of great pie!
It is so wonderful to be able to say that, when I was diagnosed everything tasted gritty, like you were eating sand. Progress is Wonderful _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88 |

LOL, I can just see the conversation:
Me: Mmmm, pie...
Mom: Can I try some?
Dad: Yeah, maybe it's not so bad.
Me: Oh no, I wouldn't want to subject you to this horrible, warped GF food. I shall sacrefice my happiness and eat this "nasty" pie, so that you might enjoy your normal pies. *gobbles up the rest of the pie* |
