Al,
Have you ever researched the connection of CD and ADD? I've started looking online at some of the sites that you use and wondered if you've done it before.

My cousin is a chronic underachiever despite being absolutely brilliant and he has many CD symptoms as well as having 5 relatives with CD. I'm compiling an email to my uncle who's doing whatever it takes to get cousin through high school and into a college on a chess scholarship. I'm wondering if ADD can be related to CD.

Hi TEC,

Yes, there are connections!!! Several Mom's that I know have said there is a night/day difference in the kids behavior. Much of it is whiny, anger type reactions.

I'll try to hunt up some info.

Science is so interesting. I just wished I had the ability to easily undersand it. It seems like it would be easier for me to read Chinese. Thanks...sent the Hogan link with the 2 that I found plus a couple supporting his other 'issues'

Now I'm wondering about a relationship between CD and insomnia...poor kid! Back to the stacks...

How 'bout this for a mindbender...

Pre-GF - I had HUGE problems with insomnia. HUGE!

After GF - I have very little problems. Only self-induced issues (posting here, doing stained glass, video editing...things that get me reved up).

I also used to get up in the middle of the night and eat. Now...rarely will I eat in the middle of the night.

I have not seen any offical research done on gluten & insomnia - only cuz I haven't really looked! LOL!

When cousin was here for a week recently, the neighbor/friend who works swing shifr as a nuke operator saw him going for a walk at 3:30 in the AM and brought him back. When cousin told us in the AM he said that walking sometimes helps him sleep and there was nothing good on TV. I live in a good area, but anything can happen during the middle of the night.

I can't relate to insomnia. Given the time I slept 12-14 hours per night pre-diagnosis. Heck, I made the time!

It's funny how the mind works. How one person can understand concepts that another person finds unfathomable. Ahhh yes...I guess that's why we need each other to get by in this world Smile

I wish I had more "understood concepts" in my brain and less concepts that make ya go "Huh?" Wink hehehe

Science is interesting...I too wish I understood more. Like Rocket Science!

I was "diagnosed" with ADD when I was in 8th grade. I had a very high IQ, yet I did NOTHING when it came to school work. I never had notes from class to look at due to the beautiful drawings I made in my notebook! I just couldn't focus. So they gave me Ritalin...the ritalin actually sped me up as opposed to making me focus. After being on it a while, all the way through high school, I took myself off it as I found myself becoming addicted to it...it was like a street drug to me.

Then came the diagnosis of depression and then moderate bi-polar disorder...which would be more acurate as I was depressed for a very long time...6 years of therapy helped and a HUGE push by my therapist to get tested for Celiac. My therapist has Celiac Disease as well...and my therapist, NOT my physician diagnosed me correctly.

2 night ago, out of nowhere, I cleaned EVERY SINGLE DISH in my kitchen. Hand washing most of them, which is HIGHLY uncharacteristic of me. I am noticing myself being less lazy and more able to focus...I only hope it gets better!

I am now 29, but I think I have been dealing with this since high school. When I was 16, I was in history class and had the WORST pain I had ever felt in my lower abdomen...I thought it was gas, but after 2 hours of not passing gas, I needed to go home. My mom, who is a nurse, thought it may be appendicitis (sp?), and took me to the ER. She kept asking "are you sure it is not gas", and I kept saying no. So right before they call me back, I went to use the rest room...and sure enough, it was gas! They took my blood and I think my white blood cell count was a bit high or low, I don't remember...but my mother and I now recall that day and have a very good laugh!

Juile,

Slowly, you will be able to piece together this giant puzzle. You will realize that many of the things you had experienced will be related to gluten. I suspect your concentration and focus will improve. Gluten is known to cause brainfog. I had huge problems with that.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I can remember times where I would stare off into space and my mind would be totally blank....but not in a good, meditation kind of blank. My husband would speak to me, and I could here him talking, but it would be more like the Peanuts characters listening to grown ups speak. No words, just sound.

When I was "sick"....sometimes, I could do nothing more than just stare off into space - this was at work too! I hated that feeling [lack of control] most of all.
