Ok, I'm confused about both natural and artificial flavorings. Some GF lists say avoid both because they could possibley contain products derived from non-GF sources. Other lists don't mention them at all, or list them as something you should question. Unfortunately , almost everything seems to have either artificial or natural flavors (like flavored rice cakes, yogurt, etc.) Does everybody REALLY avoid foods that list "flavorings" as an ingredient even if the rest of the ingredients are GF??
Thanks!!

| I AGREE....ABOUT ARTIFICIAL FLAVORINGS...YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IS IN THEM...SOME HAVE CARAMEL...MSG..ETC. .ALL SUSPECT WITH GLUTEN. BUT I STARTED TO CALL ALL THE PHONE # ON THE PRODUCTS. I DO SAY THAT THEY HAVE ALL BEEN VERY HELPFULL. EVERYONE I TALKED TO AND SAID THAT I AM CELIAC. THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS AND WHAT I HAD TO AVOID. I ORDER THE PRODUCT LISTINGS FROM CELIAC SPRUE ASSOC. IT HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL ALSO. SO WHEN I AM IN DOUBT....I CALL THE NUMBER. DOESN'T SEEM TO TAKE LONG EITHER. STARTED MY OWN LIST OF STUFF TO AVOID & EAT. AFTERALL WE ONLY CAN EAT SO MUCH STUFF ANYWAY. RIGHT? |

Tino,
It's nice to hear from you. You're the chef, right?? How have things been going? In one of your posts you mentioned you "lost the passion" for cooking. I hope it has returned!!
Yup - if something says "flavorings" - it's best to leave it alone until you know.
Of course some companies are GF friendly and may list "flavorings" - but it will not contain gluten - gluten will be listed as such. Here is a partial list (which is old - so don't let down your guard): http://www.celiacforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=35 _________________ Al
