Well, I was thinking about TEC's summer food mode - so I made this my "summer stew". Very Happy I BBQ'ed the stew beef before I popped it in the crock pot. I made a rub with Dried Mustard, Allspice and Brown Sugar. I lightly coated the beef with some oil and then added the rub - then threw it on the grill... If I hadn't chopped up all the onions before this came to me I would have grilled the beef with the onions. Well... next time.

It was good! But I need to make some changes... like use hard cider! Also I didn't have any bullion or beef broth which it really needed. And I was starving and didn't wait for the GF flour to thicken up the broth so it was a little thin. But otherwise good.

I wound up BBQing the meat as described above and then adding Cinnamon Applesauce, Allspice, Grey Poupon Mustard, dried mustard, celery salt, kosher salt and fresh cracked black pepper to the cider/water. Flavor was good. But I think I could add a little more Mustard and a little less black pepper for perfect balance. Very Happy

Sorry, my food porn photo skills aren't quite as good as Al's. I'll have to practice more.

I don't have any food porn, but we had this last night and it was delicious! We used GF beef broth (apparently it's the wrong time of the year for cider). I'd consider it a good "base" recipe...there's lots of room for tweaking.
