this is just whey protein, because soy and I are not friends (it binds thyroid hormone and that's not good when you don't have a working thyroid glad that can produce more to make up for it).
Irontek is NOT gluten free, as are both of the brands sold at Sam's club. I have gone through so much crap with irontek. The side of the bottle said gluten free so I bought it online and then when I get it the ingredient list has cookie crumbs made with wheat flour! I called and let them know about this huge and potentially life threatening mistake and they didn't seem to care much. I asked for a replacement bottle of vanilla and they send VANILLA CAKE flavor. I can't win . The cake flavor one just said "natural and artificial flavor" or something like that but it tasted like it had cake mix in it and made me feel not so good.
GNC brand whey protein is GF.
Six Star body fuel is supposed to call me back, but I am calling again tomorrow (been a week).
Let me know of any other brands you know about. I used to have a serving of protein and one of metamucil in the morning if I was running late and didn't have time for a proper breakfast. _________________ Lauren

Hey Lauren,
I use a rice protein that vanilla flavored and clearly labeled GF. I don't feel at all sick when I eat it - I'm at work now and can't remember the brand name but I'll be sure to look it up for you when I get home. It's good stuff. _________________ Cheers!

Six star whey protein is gluten free!
I eat enough rice that I'd like to get my protein powder from something else. Helps with the amino acid variety. I think egg is about the only thing that is more biologically complete than whey. I am lucky I've never had a milk problem because I love it so much. _________________ Lauren

So glad you brought this post back up - I totally forgot to look it up - sorry!
I use Nutribiotic Vanilla Rice Protein
I love this stuff and add it liberally to my fruit smoothies. It also comes in other flavors: Plain, Chocolate and Berry. I've only ever used/tried the vanilla. I buy the 1lb. jug from the local health food store and it usually lasts me about 3-4 months if I'm using it daily.
According to their website:
NutriBiotic Rice Protein is a great tasting vegetable protein made from non-genetically modified California grown brown rice. Free of the common food allergens normally associated with products such as soy, milk, egg, wheat and yeast. This highly soluble powdered formula mixes easily into water, juice or meals for an extra protein boost. Chemical processing is avoided by using a purified water and natural enzyme procedure.
I think this would be especially good for you as you're trying to avoid soy as well as gluten.
I hope you like it. _________________ Cheers!

Ooop - sorry... just saw the bit about "I eat enough rice that I'd like to get my protein powder from something else. Helps with the amino acid variety."
Well I guess it's good info for anyone else looking for a protein powder and doesn't mind the rice source...
FYI: It's also Vegan and free of sugars and preservatives. _________________ Cheers!

Six star does have soy lecithin, but it's only the protein that bothers me (binds thyroid hormone).
Rice protein is probably the best option for vegans and casein free, but I get enough fruits and veggies in my diet that I might as well get the whey (it's cheaper and has an amino acid profile that is more similar to what your body uses). I'm not dissing rice, just letting you know why I'm going with whey since I can in case anyone is wondering. I spent a looooong time looking at nutrition stuff to make a complete home made diet for my dog (very sensitive stomach, but after a good diet and some supplements the naturopathic vet suggested she was almost normal until she died) and I'll never look at protein the same after that. Used to think that protein was all the same. _________________ Lauren
