I was sitting in church today and I began to contemplate...(yes I know, I wasn't paying attention to the speaker Embarassed )...what I was wondering is this, could God heal us from having Celiac Disease? I mean, in the Bible, God healed people of all kinds of strange diseases, and I know He still has the ability to heal & take away disease today as well, so why not heal one of CD??? We can have faith & pray about it and if God wants, He could heal us. But, on the other hand, sometimes God gives us things, like CD for a reason & gives us the strength & patience to make it through & help others along the way. So, what do you think?

I know this may sound very silly to many, but I honestly feel healed!
You see, I am 31 years old. Since infancy, I have had chronic constipation. I was forced prune juice for many years, at a very young age. As most of you can relate, as I got older, the health problems increased, but no one could help me! All of this was very hard, but not nearly as hard as watching my history repeat it'self in my daughter! I would have rather gone through it all again myself than to watch her suffer, Only this time, her constipation was much more serious than mine, At one point, her colon was 3x's the size of a normal child her age, they had to give her 5 enema's back to back in the hospital. Not to mention the many forms of laxatives she's had for years. But what is the worst memory for her and I both are the many many enema's. she's had over 30-40 in the 1st 5 years of her life. Again, doctors could not help her!

It wasn't until I had my son, with problems from the start that could not be ignored!! We find it to be a HUGE blessing in our family, that he had classic celiac symptoms.. this was the very 1st we have heard of this disease! Again, it took 2 long years before we could help Matthew, but through very positive results of a GF diet with him, that lead to much MUCH research on the web, and through that, we found that most ALL of the symptoms my daughter and I both have had for many many years, were ALL signs of CD/GS

This is how and why I feel we have been healed by God. Through Matthew (which his name means "Gift of God", we were able to find the cause of our poor health, and by doing so, our health has improved greatly!!!

I know we still have to avoid Gluten, but I also view that as a blessing. Through our "new" diet, I see clearly how badly we were eating, and the final blessing is... mama learned how to cook!! Smile

I agree - I think finding the solution to all the mysterious problems is certainly healing - After all, look at some of the strange things Jesus healed people of, BUT did that healing mean they could promptly return to behaviors that got them sick in the first place - in our case, eating gluten. The Bible doesn't really say, but I suspect not - our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made and we have to treat them accordingly.

I thank God for my diagnosis, knowing what to do about it, and all you guys and your willingness to share your experience and knowledge every day. What a blessing - an illness that doesn't require lots of expensive medicine, frequent trips to the doctor (at least once they get it figured out) and is controlled by eating good healthy food and saving money by cooking at home instead of eating out 3x a week or more like we used to.

Well said, everyone! It is so hard to convince myself I have a disease because all it requires is eating a healthy diet everyday and avoid food I never liked anyway. It could just be so much worse. What else could a person get that lets you have so much control over the healing process?

well if nothing else, it helps to develop one of the fruits of the spirit: self-control.

I don't even feel the need for self-control. All of the cravings that controlled by life prior to being GF are GONE! And while my life DOES revolve around reading labels, it no longer revolves around food. Which is a major blessing in itself. Prayer and healings occur on many levels, not just the physical. Nurturing ourselves with love, filling the confusion with knowledge, being thankful to Spirit for guiding us to the answers are all forms of healing. It may be helpful to you to stop thinking of this as a "disease". That makes you feel like a victim and deprived. You are a unique child of God with special requirements that you are deserving of and entitled to. (I like to tell myself that I'm taking the next step on the evolutionary scale by refining my intake quality. You wouldn't run a Rolls-Royce on regular, would you?? Laughing )

I believe God has given us a healing, he has chosen each and everyone of us to live on a more fruitful diet and way of living to where we are healthy.

anywho, my neighbors son ran over and said i got mcdonalds food today as he is scarfing down the burger. i said oh thats nice but we dont eat that junkfood anymore, and his mom looked at me and said what you are a snob now, i said no God made me this way Very Happy

I had a similar question when I was first diagnosed. But I have come to belive that it is a wake up call from god, and a chance to change my path and live a healthier life, and take care of the body that god gave me in a whole new way. I come from a VERY VERY long line of diabetics, on both sides of my family. Because of my complications with CD I actually ended up pre-diabetic. My husbands family has the same cycle with diabetes. I have seen what they have all been through, and when my husband and I prayed about it we felt as though it was god's way of giving us the gift of a healthy life, if we were strong enough and diligent enough to make changes now and stop the cycle that we were apart of with in our own families. I belive it was for a reason, and I belive that reason may have just given me 20 more years of life to do God's work here on earth.
