Okay! I'm off and running! I signed up with Weight Watchers and have made it though the first 3 hours without a hitch... Let's see if I can't shed some of the extra "me" I've been carting around now for a year... I'm ready for it to go bu-bye! _________________ Cheers!

Yeah I know it's good - I haven't met anyone yet that stuck with the WW plan that didn't loose weight. It's just sticking to it that's the tricky part... Congratulations on losing 90 lbs - that's awesome!
I did really good yesterday - I even had 1 point left over.
Today, not so good... I went over 4 points and didn't get all my veggies... I'm still trying to at least get the rest of the H2O down... Well can't be too hard on myself, the first couple of days are always the hardest.
I think tomorrow will be better; I *walked* to the grocery store tonight and bought a heavy bag of fruit and veggies and carted it home... so there! Tomorrow I'll have apples and carrots and plums to snack on at work (instead of Bakery on Main's Granola - which tastes great! but is 6 points for 2 oz. - yikes!)
The worst part of the whole thing is I haven't had any chocolate for two days. It's killin' me... aaaagggg! If I have any left over points at the end of the week I'm eating a brownie. Is it possible to go through brownie withdrawals? _________________ Cheers!

Like you SO's mom was doing WW and she lost a ton of weight, but had trouble getting the last bit off. SO suggested that she slightly increase her food intake for a week to see if that would help 'jump start' her metabolism.
Jump start is my term...SO used medical gobbily gunk term. Anyway, increasing her food did help and she was able to get the last bit off...FWIW.

Hooray!!
Ya know, I thought I had posted on this topic - but don't see it! I used to work for Weight Watchers. After I had my 2nd child, I lost (and kept off) 70 lbs. But, then I got pregnant with my 3rd and gained it all back.
I worked for them from 2002 until May of this year. It's a terrific program!! |

Hello!
I'm getting ready to start back on WW on Monday. I have done WW in the past and was very successful but that was post GF. Now that i've been GF for over a year I have been one of the Celiac's who has gained weight.
For those of you who are currently doing WW how has it worked out with the GF diet? Easier? Harder? About the same?
I exercise several times a week (mostly walking 2-3 miles per day) and I try to make healthy food choices. I'm sure going back on WW will assist me better with that.
Thanks! _________________ Turtle |

I've dropped about 15 lbs so far and found that it hasn't been any harder with being GF.... If you stick to the plan it's mostly eating the five servings of fruit and veggies a day (very GF!) and not blowing your points on junk. I'm definitely eating better in general and now when I'm presented with GF "goodies" they make me kinda blah afterward just because my body is getting to really like all the wholesome foods I've been eating lately. Never thought that would happen!
I think you should give it a go - Good luck! _________________ Cheers!

Turtle & Jenn-
Just want to congratulate you both on the WW route . It really is the only healthy way to lose wieght. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change - and that is the only way to roll to keep it off. I took 40 lbs off about 7 years ago on WW and never put it back on - yeah I've played around with 7-10 lbs here and there - but once you get comfortable w/ yourself and your size - it is the most amazing feeling ever.
I was not GF when I lost the wieght though - I just recently got diagnosed. So I can't speek from personal experience whether or not it would be harder/easier to lose wieght GF. I agree with Jenn - that as long as you are getting your veggies in and drinking your water - you will fill up on your allowable daily points. One thing that always really helped me was the portion size fist rule. A portion of something (when your without your scale to measure it, lol) is the size of your fist - so once you start getting your stomach used to eating "portions" and also filling the plate up w/ endless veggies you realize that you ARE actually satisfied after eating. We just get so used to eating more than we need - it's an American talent.
I am very young, (24yrs) so I know this was probably slightly easier for me - being that I was 17 when I lost the wieght. However, no matter what your age/sex - if you stick with wieght watchers you'll feel like a million bucks in the end of it all - more power to you both!!!
Keep us all posted, we're pulling for you guys...

Thanks for the encouragement!
I too did WW several years ago (before I knew I had Celiac) and did awesome! I kept the weight off and everything. Since going GF (i've been GF for a year and a half) i've gained weight. I'm sure it has to do with absorbing food properly now and of course getting older. Anyhow, I am hoping that going back on WW will get off this 15 pounds that I really want to shed! Like you said you just feel so much better. I start tomorrow so i'll keep you posted and we can all support each other! YAY!! _________________ Turtle |
