Before we ever took my son off of all gluten and dairy, the 2 times he had to have anitibiotics for ear infections, his system went CRAZY!!! He ended up having to be hospitalized for dehydration due to the 30 + diarrheas he was having daily.
As I've stated before, since he's been dairy and gluten free, he's having normal stools, and doing great, but our problem is his doc wants to put him on Antibiotics for a sinus infection.
His father and I are worried his system will react, and if it does, is it possible it could relate to CD? I'm sorry to say, we're just learning as we go. As his doc has never confirmed that he has CD. we're not getting much help from them.
I guess my question would, do any of you know of any links between cd and antibiotics?

TIA
Kristie

Hi Kristie,

Sorry to hear that. Could it be the meds contain gluten?

What brand were they?

Al

Two of the last 4 times I've had antibiotics I got what they called a "superinfection" and developed diahrrea that lasted for 2 weeks. I was taking acidophilus and all that stuff anyway but didn't help. I was not GF at the time so I don't know if it was the antibiotics or what. Not fun, though!

They were Amoxiclin (sp?) and Bactrim. I'm not sure if they contain gluten or not. My thoughts are that because he wasn't not on a gf diet at the time, he couldn't fight the gluten with being on the antibiotics. Now that he's dairy and GF, he might have better success, but that's a very large risk, I'm not sure his father and I are willing to take.

This is a sub site from celiac.com that lists prescription drugs and over the counter drugs that are GF I thought this might help with your Son and deciding what to give him. Hope it helps!
