I went to see my PCP yesterday. The last time I saw her in Feb., she was like, I want to see you next month. I want you to have gained weight. Bring your kids, I want to see them. And we'll see how you're doing. (I didn't go in March because I was still so sick.) I guess I waited too long before I returned. Yesterday, she was like why are you here? Are you still having abdominal pains? Why do you want to have bloodwork done? blah, blah, blah Oh yeah... and then there was the, "Since you're doing so well on the gluten free diet, you should stay on it." Well... yah! Even though I've been GF for 6 months, I'm still very fatigued. A few people have told me to get my thyroid, adrenals, and pancreas checked. I asked her to do it and she didn't want to. "I don't need to check your thyroid because I already did. It was normal. If there was anything wrong with your adrenals, the tumor would've shown up on the CT scan." What tumor? Do you have to have a tumor on your adrenals to have something wrong with it? She went ahead and marked the box for me to have my thyroid tested. They're only going to test the TSH and not the T3 or T4. Ah well... what can I do? So, right now, I'm completely confused. I was getting 3 different sets of answers from 3 different doctors. One said I was anemic, then said I wasn't, and the 3rd said my iron levels were a low normal. Aye caramba! (Keep in mind I was only extremely ill for just under 3 months. I'd heard I needed to be sick for a longer period of time before it significantly affects my iron.) Anyway, she's also checking my liver to see if it's doing better. We shall see... Then she said, "After you get your blookwork done, I don't need to see you again until you're do for your physical / annual."
Should I have gone back to my GI dr instead? _________________

ugh! I'm sorry she wasn't more helpful. I just don't understand doctors at times! I would at least contact the GI and run this by them.. do you have a better relationship with the GI doc vs your PCP? _________________ Kristie M.

Unfortunately, I don't. I've seen my PCP several times more than I've seen my GI doc. My husband was saying that maybe we had a better relationship when I was very sick because I saw her often... during that "test after test" / "what's wrong with you" phase. And, because it's been 6 months since I've seen her, I'm just another appointment now. I guess I'll just go with it for now. If the fatigue doesn't ease up, I might see an allergist to see if I'm reacting to something else or a dietician to see if I'm doing something wrong. Unfortunately, the majority of what I know is from research or asking someone that already researched it. The doctors out here in NM don't seem to know much when it comes to Celiac. _________________

Hi Cheryl,
Sorry to hear of your travails. All too often the docs will only test TSH and not the T3/T4's. It doesn't give you a true picture.
Hang in there - keep looking.
It might be worth a try to contact some of these groups and ask about Docs.

Thanks for that. I'm thinking about marking the test paper so they'll test T3 and T4. Perhaps I'll be a good girl and let it go. I can always "harrass" her until she does what I want. Are we allowed to do that? _________________

Thank you for the links. A lot of info there. Doctors never cease to amaze me. We go to them for "help" but we're better off researching the stuff ourselves. We definitely get more info that way. Thanks again. _________________
