I just got off the phone with a restaurant in Lake Geneva WI. I made reservations early on a Saturday so I could bother the kitchen crew with my "special needs". The person on the phone asked about my special dietary concerns. I told him. His answer: we accomodate gluten free all the time. Now we'll see how it works out, but in 3 months curing myself I find eating out (or lack thereof) very frustrating.

I'm just writing out of joy.

Lake Geneva is less than an 1.5 hours from my front door. To which restaurant are you referring? We happen up there frequently and I never know what to do about food when we're with friends.

We ate at the Hunt Club at the Geneva National Golf Club. We don't eat out much anymore so our pennies were saved for an expensive meal. The server knew about my issues and had already talked to the cooks. The restaurant mgr said 2 guys are culinary school graduates and are very aware of Celiac.

The only bad thing was they used a lot of gluten containing ingredients in their prep. And they knew it. Since they make things from scratch they did offer to leave some ingredients out. I did have a steak, which I know is the easy way out, but I did have a choice of tuna, salmon, and chicken. I was assured that everything is cooked, put together in clean cookware and nothing is seasoned beyond salt and pepper on the grill.

We did eat lunch at Mia Bella (sp) Bistro. We had salads and everything was homemade. The cook actually showed me the containers of everthing that went into the dressing and the seasonings. No mystery "modified" or "flavorings". They could do that for any thing I wanted.

So, and good and expensive dinner, good gluten free wine Wink and no harmful after effects. But the best thing was how well they took care of me. I know everyone appreciates that.
