Yes, I am curious, too...

Why can't you watch Hollywood movies? Not trying to pry, just curious, that's all...

I saw "The Illusionist" over the weekend...I really liked it--of course, I really like Edward Norton, too...I think he's a great actor! Smile

I do something similar, isto. We don't watch anything R rated in our house. Lower than that is OK for us, though. Glad to hear someone else is wierd like me.

PS - we love the pirates that don't do anything! But my all time favorite Veggie Tales is the one with Frankencelery in it. The name escapes me right now...

I've never heard of not watching movies due to religious beliefs. Most of the religious people I grew up with didn't watch R movies just because they were protective parents.

I love Veggie Tales too. I think it's an adorable way to get the message across to kids, even though it's a message I don't really agree with. My favorite songs are Pirates Who Don't Do Anything and Where is My Hairbrush. Smile

Must restrain self from buying V for Vendetta....

Basically, we believe that God requires us to be in the world but not of the world. That means we have to live in the world, obviously, but we should not be jaded, tainted, or caught up with the things OF the world. Our family's eyes are to be on God and what He has for us. So in order to do that, we limit our exposure to things which could take our eyes off of our focus. Not watching movies fits this category because of the bad language, or sexual stuff in them. You know the old computer term GIGO (garbage in, garbage out). That is the same for our brains. If it goes in, it comes out.

That is a VERY basic explanation, but I don't think you were looking for anything very in depth.

And I'm not saying we never watch anything because that would not be true. But we are very careful and selective about what we watch. My children know who Roy Rogers and Trigger are, but they couldn't tell you what Spongebob was if it meant money. Actually, I couldn't either, but I've seen enough stuff while I'm shopping to identify the character.

Thanks for asking - I'm glad you were interested.

Danita

I'd like to add that I only wrote the above because I was asked why we do what we do. It was not meant to be preachy or judgmental. I don't want it to cause a big problem like some other threads have done. I am a firm believer in watching out for what I'm doing and not pointing fingers. Because if I pointed a finger at someone else, I still have 3 more pointing back at me. Very Happy Very Happy

Blessings,
Danita

Hahaha, thanks Isto! I didn't think it was preachy at all. After all, I did ask the question. Smile So let me make sure I understand you correctly: you basically keep your "eyes on the prize" (aka God), and don't want/need to be distracted by other worldly things? Is that about right? What do you normally watch? (This is probably redundant, but you'll definetly want to stay away from V for Vendetta.)

Your response was perfect Danita!! Not preachy, not judgmental, no personal attacks. You stated your facts...plain & simple!

Well done! And well done for those respectfully asking!!
