[quote="isto"]Basically, we believe that God requires us to be in the world but not of the world. That means we have to live in the world, obviously, but we should not be jaded, tainted, or caught up with the things OF the world. Our family's eyes are to be on God and what He has for us. So in order to do that, we limit our exposure to things which could take our eyes off of our focus. Not watching movies fits this category because of the bad language, or sexual stuff in them. You know the old computer term GIGO (garbage in, garbage out). That is the same for our brains. If it goes in, it comes out./quote]

I just wondered how computers and the Internet fit into this belief, since quite obviously you use both?

From A Very Silly Sing-Along
Narrator: "Joining Larry are Pa Grape and Mr. Lunt, who together make up
the infamous gang of scalliwags, the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything!"
Larry, Pa, Mr. Lunt: "We are the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything! We just
stay home and lie around. And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just
tell you ..."
Larry: "We don't do anything!"
Pa: "Well, I've never been Greenland and I've never been to Denver, and
I've never buried treasure in St. Louis or St. Paul, and I've never been
to Moscow and I've never been to Tampa, and I've never been to Boston in
the fall."
All: "'Cuz we're the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything! We just stay home
and lie around. And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just tell you
.."
Mr. Lunt: "We don't do anything. And I never hoist the mainstay and I
never swab the poop deck, and I never veer to starboard 'cuz I never
sail at all, and I've never walked the gang plank and I've never owned a
parrot, and I've never been to Boston in the fall."
All: "'Cuz we're the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything! We just stay at home
and lie around. And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just tell you
.. We don't do anything!"
Larry: "Well, I've never plucked a rooster and I'm not too good at
ping-pong, and I've never thrown my mashed potatoes up against the wall,
and I've never kissed a chipmunk and I've never gotten head lice, and
I've never been to Boston in the fall!"
Pa: "Huh? What are you talking about? What's a rooster and mashed
potatoes have to do with being a pirate??"
Mr. Lunt: "Hey, that's right! We're supposed to sing about pirate-y
things!"
Larry: "Oh ..."
Pa: "And who ever kissed a chipmunk? That's just nonsense! Why even
bring it up? Am I right? What do you think?"
Mr. Lunt: "I think you look like Cap'n Crunch!"
Pa: "Huh? No I don't!"
Mr. Lunt: "Do too."
Pa: "Do not!"
Mr. Lunt: "You're making me hungry."
Pa: "That's it, you're walkin' the plank!"
Mr. Lunt: "Says who?"
Pa: "Says the captain, that's who!"
Mr. Lunt: "Oh, yeah? Aye aye, Cap'n Crunch!"
Larry: "And I've never licked a spark plug and I've never sniffed a
stink bug, and I've never painted daisies on a big red rubber ball, and
I've never bathed in yogurt and I don't look good in leggings ..."
Pa: "You just don't get it!"
All: "And we've never been to Boston in the fall!"

Even if you've heard these lyrics 100 times... you've never heard them Wink until you've heard my kids recite them!!! I cry laughing every time!!

Aye aye Cap'n Crunch!!!!

Avast V! Another round o rum for the captn' and his wench! YAR HAR!
Yarr, I be preferin' the Relient K version:

Quote:
We are the pirates who don't do anything,
we just stay at home, and lie around.
And if you ask us, to do anything,
we'll just tell you, we don't do anything.

Well I've never been to Greenland,
and I've never been to Denver,
and I've never buried treasure in St. Louie or St. Paul.
And I've never been to Moscow,
and I've never been to Tampa,
and I've never been to Boston in the fall.

Cause we are the pirates who don't do anything,
we just stay at home, and lie around,
and if you ask us, to do anything
we'll just tell you, we don't do anything.

And I've never hoist the main sail,
and I've never swabbed the poop deck,
and I've never veered starboard, cause I've never sailed at all.
And I've never walked the gang plank,
and I've never owned a parrot...
And I've never been to Boston in the fall

Cause we are the pirates who don't do anything,
we just stay at home, and lie around,
and if you ask us, to do anything,
we'll just tell you, we don't do anything.

I've never plucked a rooster,
and I am not too good at ping-pong,
and I've never thrown my mashed potatoes up against the wall.
And I've never kissed a chipmunk,
and I've never gotten head lice,
and I have never been to Boston in the fall.

(Pirate Captain's Log ..... 2002
Who be this band Relient K,
and why they be so full of contradictions?)

We don't know what he did
but we're down with captain kidd
we don't wake up before lunch
but we all eat captain crunch
we don't smoke, we don't chew
we watch captain kangaroo.

And I've never licked a spark plug
and I've never sniffed a stink bug
and I've never painted daisys on a big red rubber ball
and I've never bathed in yogurt
and I dont look good in leggings
and I've never been to boston in the fall

(Ladies and gentlemen, let's give 'em a big hand!)
We are the pirates who don't do anything,
we just stay at home, and lie around.
And if you ask us, to do anything,
we'll just tell you, we don't do anything.

We are the pirates who don't do anything
we just stay at home, and lie around
and if you ask us, to do anything
we'll just tell you, we don't do anything.

And if you need ideas for pirate food, for breakfast we had hard tack with bugs (toasted halves of leftover biscuits topped with grated chocolate). Dinner will be Shipwreck Stew http://members.aol.com/trishanne2/shipwreck.html. I don't know about lunch yet--probably Ian's Allergen Free Fish Sticks and Spud Puppies.

Sadly our forecast is for rain, so our pirate activities for the day have been postponed. I'll try to post a pic of my son and I in our matching pirate shirts soon.

Another pirate song, arrr!

(sung to the tune of Wanted - Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi)

It's all the same... only the crew has changed
Every day, it seems we're sailing away
Another place where the wenches are so cold
I'd sail all night, just to get back home

I'm a pirate, on a wooden ship I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
I'm wanted (wanted) dead or alive

Sometimes I sleep... sometimes it's not for days
And the people I meet, they sail their separate ways
Sometimes you tell the day by the grog that you drink
And times when you're alone, when all you do is stink

I'm a pirate, on a wooden ship I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
I'm wanted (wanted) dead or alive

...And I walk this plank, a loaded musket at my back
I play for keeps, 'cuz I might not make it back
I've been everywhere, sailed the seven seas
I've had a thousand wenches, and every known disease

I'm a pirate, on a wooden ship I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
I'm wanted (wanted) dead or alive

Ahoy, mateys! In school today we argggged alot and when someone was caught daydreaming we threatened that they would have to walk the plank. My children are looking forward to an afternoon of singing The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. Two of them are too old to want to do piratey things. They just humor me. Rolling Eyes

Arrrstrich, in answer to your question, we don't really watch much. Our children have some videos of Roy Rogers, Veggie Tales, Thomas the Tank (for the young ones), the Rifleman, Sherlock Holmes, etc. The really old stuff.

My husband and I will sometimes watch some older stuff - Gone with the Wind, The 39 steps, etc. I did rent The Passion of the Christ because I knew so many people who raved about it. And sometimes we borrow movies from the library, but I try to get more documentary/nature stuff than anything else.

GF Mike - That is a good question! Actually, we really did not want the internet in our home. Last year my husband decided we should have the internet at our antique shop in order to do online sales. We only used ebay and paypal and no other sites. Then I found out about this one and my husband does not have a problem with me using the forum - he's actually glad for all the info and support I get here! We still do not surf and stick only to a few sites that we must utilize for our health, school, or online sales.

When we moved our shop at the end of August, the computer and internet came home because my husband has been out of work since February due to his surgery, and online sales are supporting our family of seven. So I'm actually quite thankful for the computer and internet because God is providing for us through it.

I do not think a computer is wordly or bad - I think what you can DO on a computer or the internet can be bad.

Thanks for asking!

And by the way, I didn't want to take the time to write all that in pirate talk. Please read and ad lib as you so desire! Wink Wink

Ok, so my pirate name is Mad Dog Cash...

"Part crazy, part mangy, all rabid, you're the pirate all the others fear might just snap soon. You're musical, and you've got a certain style if not flair. You'll do just fine. Arr! "

Mine is.... Dirty Grace Kidd

You're the pirate everyone else wants to throw in the ocean -- not to get rid of you, you understand; just to get rid of the smell. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

I'm not walking the plank.... I'm runnin it! LOL (totally can't NOT talk like a Pirate!)
