Ok, so, let me start out by saying that I had a doc appointment in NYC on Monday...
My friend Michael came with me, with the intention of spending the day in NYC...he's not from around here, so I figured we'd tour the city together...
Well, let me tell you, we ended up in the Village at Risotteria. BY FAR THE BEST meal I have had in a LONG time!!!! YUM!! First off, they sit you at your table with two long and warm (fresh out of the oven) GF breadsticks! I ordered a New Grist Beer, and my friend Michael (who is very dear to me and one of my bestest friends) ordered a Ramapo Valley Brew. He ordered a pizza with mozzarella cheese, roasted peppers, and olives. I ordered a panini sandwich with prosciutto, mozzarella, and oven roasted tomatoes. IT WAS FABULOUS!!! The waiter was AWESOME and the place was amazing! Even though we were both STUFFED (and Michael is not even GF!), we HAD to order dessert. I got a brownie and he got a chocolate chip cookie. Both were delish!
I HIGHLY recommend this place! I may not eat for 3 days now because I have stuffed myself silly, but it was WAY worth it!!!
It's on Bleecker Street at the intersection of Morton. Awesome place--you guys HAVE to check it out! I can't say enough good things about it! _________________ ~Torrey

Torrey....I have heard of this place and read newspaper articles about it. I am in Boston so one of these days, I will get there and maybe you could join us. Let me add that your description of the food sent me over the edge! After one year GF, all of a sudden I've been craving pizza....real pizza....panini's....anything authentically Italian. No way to satisfy it either at the moment as it's too hot to fire up the oven that long!
Thanks for the review anyway!!!! |

Torrey,
Thanks so much!!! I was just in the city yesterday (dr. appt. too...!), but didn't read this until today!! First chance I get, I'm heading across the Hudson, with another CD friend!!! REAL PIZZA?! I'll swim across!! I'll let you know...!
Thanks again,

Hey Marsha,
I see that you're in Jersey...me too!
Maybe we should all make a trip into NYC sometime...just a thought. I'm about half an hour or less to NYC, but I usually take the train... _________________ ~Torrey

Torrey,
Sounds like a plan!!!!
I'm in Washington Twp. (Bergen Co., in between Westwood and Ridgewood....Ridgewood, home of Whole Foods and their well stocked GF freezer full of dangerously delicious treats that had lead to too much me!!!). I'm sure you've been there too!!!
If memory serves (I lived in Hawthorne MANY, MANY years ago, for a short per. of time...), you're near Ridgewood too...just on the other side, into Passaic Co.? Is that right? Up 208, above Fair Lawn?
I usually drive (well, someone else drives...I'm more of a country girl!! I can drive into NYC, but truly hate to do so...too crowded for me!) or take the ferry (from Edgewater...used to live in Hackensack, and that way was easy from there!), where is the closet train to you?
I'm sure we can find a day that's good for the all of us to go!
I'm excited!!!!
Have a good one...

NO WAY!!! I know exactly where that is! I just went to the movies in Washington Twp! And, BTW, I grew up in Ridgewood...just bought my house here in Hawthorne in December '04.
What a small world!!!
I agree with you--I NEVER drive into NYC...ever...I always take the train. That was one of the prerequisites for me buying this house--it had to be near the train station because I used to work in NYC...just recently got a job in Parsippany...
So, in any event, the train station is really close to me--walking distance! Let's all of us NJ/NY folks head to Risotteria!! _________________ ~Torrey

Torrey,
How cool is that?!
Do you shop at Whole Foods? Which health food stores do you frequent? There's one on 303 in Northvale that had quite a large GF selection...
I'm always all over the place...Whole Foods for cereal and rice bars (or treats if it's an occasion...), Stop and Shop for turkey (they also just got Gorilla Munch, which I do munch on!!) A&P for rice crackers, Trader Joe's for waffels (when they have them) and almond milk...it's always an adventure!!
Anyway...I'll keep my eyes peeled when I'm up around your area., or shopping for GF stuff! Sorry, I can't scan a picture into my computer as of yet. How recent is your photo?
We should definitly grab a coffee or something sometime!

I was just at the Whole Foods in Ridgewood today after work!!
We got some amazing NY Strip Steaks for dinner--grilled those with some zucchini, squash, and red onions, and it was fabulous! Of course, the kitten ran off with some of the steak, but that's to be expected, so we have learned.
That photo of me was taken last summer, so it's relatively recent...I literally fried my digital camera, though, so no more new pics right now...my b-day is coming up, so I may purchase a new one as a gift to myself. _________________ ~Torrey

Torrey,
Too funny!! I was going to go to WF yesterday afternoon too, but had a bit of a migraine, so I needed to hang out with an ice-pack on my head, instead!
Well...let me know if you'd like to meet someplace (Ridgewood maybe? The park w/ a cup of something? And perhaps a GF muffin from WF?!) anytime in the near future...
My schedule is pretty flexable for the next few weeks (I'm a teacher, and I've been lucky enough over the past few summers to be able to save enough, not to have to work!!! This has helped SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much w/ all the health issues!!). I do have some doctor appts. and such, but nothing too demanding! The assult to get the classroom ready starts very soon...
Have a great weekend! _________________ "We may not have it all together...but together we have it all!" |

My daughter moved to NYC (we are in FL now) a year ago, so whenever I visit, Rissotoria is a MUST. She lives in the East Village and there are so many restaurants in her area that are now telling you (usually on the menu) that certain items are GF.
It's just too bad that other areas of the country are not aware of the large GF/wheat free market out there. |

Ok, so I went back to this place on Sunday...oh, WHAT A TREAT!
You guys have got to go to this place--I LOVE IT!
I had a doc appt in the city (NYC) on Sunday, so I walked over to Risotteria afterward...
I treated myself to a GF pizza with parma ham (TEC--you would be proud!), a GF beer (Redbridge), and a DELICIOUS GF chocolate cupcake with GF vanilla icing and GF sprinkles!!!
I was in 7th heaven!
I stayed there for about 2 hours, just chatting with the staff and other clientele. It was so much fun. Oh, and get this: there are about 30 people on staff there...and NOT ONE of them has to be GF! But they know all about Celiac and gluten intolerance and they know what to look out for. Really great people!
If anyone is in the NYC area anytime soon, I'll definitely go back with you! _________________ ~Torrey
