I think I have the best hubby in the world... He's working all day just so he can take me to Outback for Dinner tonight!!!
I have NEVER been there, and it's literally been since June since we've been out to eat anywhere! I am so excited! All day yesterday, I kept the updated GF menu on my desktop and drooled over it! I may skip the main dish and go stright to the Chocolate Thunder from Down under!!
But then again, I'm not eating anything for the rest of the day, so I may end up eating every GF item they have!! They'll have to roll me out of there when I'm through!
Does anyone have any recomendations? _________________ Kristie M.

I usually get the steak. I have gotten in the past Alice Springs Chicken.
Just save room for the Choch Thunder....
Have fun!! _________________ Al

I also get the Alice Springs Chicken - with unseasoned veggies. The chocolate thunder is amazing!!!! =)
Be warned though... you'll sit there and watch servers, all night long, carrying speared fresh loaves of wheat bread to hungry patrons. I would tell them, as SOON as you sit down, that you do NOT want any bread. |

I can't tell you how burnt out on Chicken I am these days.. it seems that it's all we have anymore! Don't get me wrong, it sounds great... but tonight I think I'll have anything but chicken! lol Steak sounds sooooo good! So does Shrimp....

being that hubby's taking me, and knowing him the way I do.. most likely he'll stuff his face with it right at our table. But that's ok... #1 the GF food looks and sounds REALLY yummy and #2 Mama doesn't have to cook!!!! I'll just keep my focus on the Choc. Thunder. _________________ Kristie M.

OH MY GOSH!!!!!! I'm not so certain that anything that good should enjoyed that publicly!!
The entire meal was delicious!! (by far the best I've had in quite some time!) Starting with the cesar salad, as the owner pointed out.. I didn't leave a leaf behind! LOL I hardly even noticed hubby on the other side of the table munching on his glutened bread!
For the main meal, I ordered the sirloin (have half left over for breakast tomorrow ) and ooooh my, their mashed potatos... best I've ever had!
Then the desert.... Oh yes... the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under... this thing was so good, I felt I was sinning with each bite!!! I was the smarter one of the two, I saved half of my steak, just so I could get through the desert... hubby wasn't as fortunate
The only downside was that the Restaurant was an hour away. However, the good news is, they are opening on here locally some time in the future! _________________ Kristie M.

Hi Kristie,
I am glad you had such a great experience. I forgot to tell you about the garlic mashed taters [my favorite thing in the whole place. Wait...maybe its the 1K Island dressing ].
If it makes you feel any better, "my" Outback is 45 min. away. This is probably a good thing, because if it were closer I'd want to go all the time.
You can use the distance to your advantage as well. You can use it for special occasions/date night with hubby
I am difficult to buy presents for [or so I'm told]...so my list always includes GC's to the Outback The only thing better than eating...is eating for free! LOL! _________________ Al

That's a fantastic idea!!
You know what I loved almost more than the food... their overall GF knowledge. Even dh was impressed, and said over and over again how happy he was for me to be able to go out to eat somewhere and feel "normal" again.
I called earlier in the day and spoke to the co-owner himself (didn't ask for him, it just so happened he answered the phone) I could tell right away our visit would be a pleasent one, but honestly wasn't prepared for how easy it would be. All I had to say was "I'm gluten intolerant", and the waiter himself (without running to get a manager and looking at me with a glazed over look not having a clue what "gluten" meant) said Oh, let me get a GF menu for you!
Even when it came down to ordering.. he'd say.. "The dressing is GF, but I'll list "no croutons" (spelling isn't great this early! sorry!!) I almost fell out of my chair, and best of all, when the food was served, it was PERFECT!! we didn't have to send one item back!
The owner came over to see how our experience was.. we talked about how "Outback" prides themselves on providing a safe and pleasant dinning experience to GF customers. I for one, am very thankful that they do. Now grant it, it'll probably be 9 months to a year before we're able to get back (unless family & friends take my Gift Cert. hint) (Thanks Al) but it really is nice, knowing that there's *Somewhere* to go! _________________ Kristie M.

I prefer the "Outback Special" -- it's a sirloin steak cut that is nice and lean, sufficiently thick, and of a good texture. The seasoning is just right imho. I like their baked potatoes quite a bit too. _________________ Mike

Yes!.. that's what I had. I was so taken away by the Choco. Thunder... that I couldn't remember exactly what else I ordered!
Oh.. and the steak heated up nicely for breakfast this morning. _________________ Kristie M.

The only issue we have had with that Outback Special is that when we order it medium, some cook's interpretation of medium is overcooked, sometimes under. So, lately we just order our stuff to go (they take call-in orders around here), order the steak med-rare, then take it home and throw in the cast-iron fry pan for a bit longer if needed to get it just right.
And yes, the leftovers go great with eggs in the morning. _________________ Mike

Kristie - I'm so glad you had a great time!!!
We have several Outbacks within 10 minutes. Wanna come visit? =)
In any event, I don't eat red meat.... or seafood, so I'm never a good person to suggest menu items. I should remember that!! =) |

I 2nd Al's comment.. although, my poor hubby would have to work around the clock just to feed me I think it's safer all around that it's an hour drive.
The only thing that could make outback any better (other than distance) is if they could put Chili's soup (Baked Potato) on their menu... man.. that would be goooood! _________________ Kristie M.
