In and Out and a Teenage Suprise

Ok, I don't really eat out anymore though there is a raw food place (expensive!) and an Outback (no one will go there with me, why???) then sometimes I occassionally go to In and Out Burger because for the most part they do try to keep the food separate and safe for me. But if I go at a busy time or I can tell my little speech didn't get across, I am in for trouble if I eat the hamburger.

But, today the teenager that took my order was listening to my little speil (sp?) and he said "Are you gluten intolerant?" I'm like shocked! The first kid to actually not look puzzled when I use words like Celiac, gluten, etc. And even though it seems like there is a new crew everytime I go in there, this one time the kid got it and made sure everything was safe. Cool! Cool

His brother has CD so he knows all about CD. I wanted to hug the kid - besides you guys, he's the only person in a year (beside the Celiac Conference of course) that didn't look at me puzzled every time I talk about gluten and CD. Even my friends still seem not to believe the info I tell them (though I think they are coming around little by little every time I end up in the hospital dieing).

Ok, I talk too much, it was just the first time in public someone spoke my language. Kind of like being in a foreign country for a month and finally running into someone who speaks English. So I am just a little excited about not being an alien for a brief food order! Very Happy

Doesn't it just make you feel great when you're understood. I'm glad you were able to get a safe meal.

When I get the chance I get the cheeseburger protein style (no bun, wrapped in a lettuce leaf) and the fries extra crisp... so good. Exclamation

I think that it is great that you finally found someone that knows about CD. When I tell people about it, they look at me like I am crazy. It is great to know that there are people out there other than us that know about CD! Very Happy

Yeah that is really too bad. Hopefully in the future that will change. People need to know about CD.

I went to a local restaurant and the chef had worked with a woman that had celiac. It was really nice to know he understood that I wasn't just on some crazy health fad diet. Yup, I'll probably go back.

Recently I checked some fast food list to double check and see whats new in the Gf choices. In and Out suprised me when they wrote back that the sauce is NOT Gf. I thought it was. Doubly glad now that my Cd Daughter doesn't like the sauce. I am sure I glutened her a time or two though. Sad
