I have read that rose art clay(modeling clay) contains gleutin. Does anyone know of a clay that is gleutin free. My daughter's classroom uses this and now it has to be off limits. I am looking for an alternative. Thanks.

We use real clay for my son. Comes in gray and red/orange (natural clay colors). It's available at any good art store. It can be painted when it's dried.

Maybe this is a stupid question... but if they are not going to eat it, why can't it have gluten in it?

Because it gets on their hands and then the hands go into the mouth and they wind up eating what they shouldn't. Shocked

No. My son is 8, does not eat play doh, but got violently ill playing with it this summer. What gets on their hands gets in their mouths.

How about paper mache? That is basically flour and water with paper dipped in. Any substitutes you can think of there? We like to make paper mache toys for our pet mice.... Rolling Eyes

Sweet rice flour might work. I personally would not have my son touching or being around wheat flour at all. That stuff gets into the air and into everything.

I have also heard of people using watered -down glue, but I'm not sure if that would hurt the mice. Elmers school glue is supposed to be non-toxic.

You need to post pics of those cute mice in our pets thread. Very Happy I would've never thought of giving paper mache to mice. I've had tons of hamsters in my life, I'm sure they would've loved it.

Ha Ha - you don't know what you are getting yourself into. I have HUNDREDS of pictueres of my pet mice. I will indeed post a few in the pet forum.

As to the paper mache - we cover a balloon and then pop the balloon when the paper mache is dry. The mice LOVE to use it for a sleeping nook and also to chew on and make holes in.

Very cute stuff....
