Those bagels sound yummy. I saw a Wild Oats when we were driving the other day. If I can remember where it was I hope to stop and spend my paycheck. Whoops, I mean try their wide selection of K products. Laughing

No, you will indeed spend your paycheck. One package of bagels, one piece of a French triple cream cheese, 2 Amy's frozen mac & cheese, 1 Amy's frozen enchilada, 1 tamari sauce, 1 sesame oil, 1 rice wine vinegar = $38!

Wow Tec, that's crazy. but hey what are we gonna do right? We have to stay healthy. Maybe our food will become cheaper as Celiacs becomes more widely spread. It is surely spreading and I think our food will be like DVD players were. If we wait for a few years than they will become cheaper? LOL Wishful thinking but I don't think so Very Happy

I wish! I was in Whole Foods this afternoon - I got one box of GF Waffles, a box of their scones and a loaf of bread. $17! What the-? Unbelievable. I don't think I'll be going back to WF anytime soon.

Jenn, that is just crazy. More than $5 on each item! I can see why some people opt to make everything at home. As I become more familar with the ingriedients, and can find them, I hope to try my hands in more. WF has really good orange cranberry scones, those are the only ones they carry at the local WF.

Most of the time I do bake at home - I'd rather spend my money on a bread pan that can be used over and over than to see it go like that...

Funny you should mention those scones. I love scones and saw the Cranberry Orange one's and had to try them (normally I'd make them - I've been meaning to make the pumpkin scone recipe that someone posted here recently but hadn't gotten around to it yet) Anyway good to know that I'm in for a yummy breakfast! Very Happy

In all fairness to Wild Oats, the cheese was $5. The bagels were over $5 but I would have spent $20 on them. The tamari and sesame oil were $11, but I rarely need to buy either of those. The Amy's meals weren't necessities. Like I said before, don't go shopping when you are hungry.

I would rather spend money on bagels and bread and use my time to bake/cook things that I'm interested in baking and cooking. It's not inexpensive to bake GF bread at home either because the flour/starch is expensive. Then you have to add the other ingredients.

On the next rainy Sunday afternoon, I'll work up the costs for homemade bread vs. store bought and see which is cheaper.

Jenn,
Do you know Trader Joes sells GF waffles? I've seen them but have never tried them. I wonder if they too are made by Vann's.

I don't know. I don't shop at TJ's that often. I'll have to look the next time I'm there.

Does anybody know if WO or WF have discount cards? One of those things you sign up for, and they give you a % off certain items? We use our Bakers (Kroger) one all the time; it saves us a ton of cash.

Jenn,
I first tried them and thought that they were ok. Then I found myself really enjoying them. They have a nice buttery taste ontop of the light orange/cranberry taste. Nothing is over powering.

Oz - I don't think they do. I've never seen it. Too bad -

Sarah - Yeah they were pretty good. I (of course) popped it in the microwave to heat it up and soften it a bit. But maybe just a bit too sweet. I really like my scones to taste like scones and not sweet like muffins. But I don't think they'll be going to waste! Very Happy Do yours come fresh? The WF's I went to had all the GF stuff in the frozen case. Nothing was fresh. Sad So I had to thaw it first (which always kinda wreaks havoc with bread products).

Jenn, the WF here has their bakehouse goods in an open fridge. I keep them in the freezer and use the microwave too.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add my response. We had the Kinnikinnickofragilisticexpialidocious (I can never spell it right, so I decided to totally murder it Very Happy ) bagels this weekend, and they were really great. From frozen, I nuked each one for a minute and then they were defrosted enough to enjoy. They did not need toasting, and passed the kid test with flying colors. Next time I will slice them before I freeze them, though. I was afraid I was going to amputate a digit trying to slice the frozen bagel-cicle.

I'll have to look for those critters. Thanks for the review!
