Hmm ... is there a term similar to the wonderful "Bazooka Barfing" that would apply to the other end? Wink Laughing

My family tries to avoid discussing the gf diet or cd with my family (primarily my parents). They are "know-it-alls" even though they haven't read anything. We've given them Wheat Free, Worry Free, chatted a little about gf and cd a little, but like D. Korn says, "Some people just don't get it!" At first they acted interested, but I guess they weren't really listening.
We decided to never bring up the gf diet or cd with my parents again. However, they continue bring it up (just to argue?). Then they complaint that they don't see their grandchildren often enough! They refuse to let us accomodate ourselves at their house.
We've had to severely limit visits with them, and only at our house, where we are in charge. We are pretty good at changing the conversation, but it is tiring.
They seem to be mad at us about this, and seem to be waiting for it to "blow over" and for life to return to "normal."
We feel like we've normalized, but they don't want to recognize it.
We have adjusted to seeing them a lot less. It may sound anti-family or cold-hearted, but we've unexpectedly realized that we're a lot happier not seeing them very often.

I've noticed in my family that there is no pattern to who will be understanding (we don't want pity, either!). Some people don't want to learn anything about it, but they still respect the diet. Some people act like they want to know, and are very capable of learning, but don't want to accept the facts.
I agree - sometimes it's best to avoid confrontational people who see to constantly return to argumentative subjects!
