Another recipe from one of my favorite cookbooks. It is called Marnie's Kitchen Shortcuts (ISBN 031214119X). I'm not sure if it is in print anymore, but you may be able to get it from the library. This is way cheaper than buying packets of taco seasoning mix and you don't have to worry about gluten!
Taco Seasoning Mix
1/4 teaspoon paprika
2 teaspoons onion flakes
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon garlic salt (I usually use garlic powder bacause I don't like it quite so salty)
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon cumin
Add this and 1/2 cup water to 1 pound cooked ground beef. Simmer 15 minutes, or until the water is cooked out.
This is good for my kids (not too spicy), but if you liked a little hotter, you could easliy add more chili powder. Sometimes I add a small can of tomato sauce instead of the water becasue I like the flavor that it gives to the meat.
Hope this helps someone. _________________ -Colleen

Oh yeah this helps! Almost go into a fight w/ DH at Walmart last week because he couldn't understand why I didn't want to buy any of the taco seasoning mixes or the packages of taco fixins' that included a packet.
I nicely pointed out that we had all the same spices at home, except the MSG and all the other ingredients that are hard to pronounce.
It will be nice to make our own mix in the right proportions.
THANK YOU! _________________ Nance
