|

My cd diagnosis came with the discovery of osteoporosis and then parathyroidism. My latest tests show an improvement in the iron, calcium, and magnesium levels but by parathyroid levels are worse.
The doctor said that happens and scheduled to see me in five months. I questioned the parathyroid levels and so he ran another bone density test. I got a notice in the mail saying the test showed significant loss and that he would discuss this with me at my appointment five months away.
Now my question is do all celiacs have a problem with their parathyroid?
If I'm feeling worse do I need to see the doctor sooner? Do I continue to tweak my diet? Do I possibly have another problem? Sometimes the parathyroid must be removed. I don't think it would be impossible to have a tumor and cd at the same time.
Although the doctor I saw last fall for the first time was quick to diagnose me with cd, I have been left to search for answers via the internet at his suggestion. Which has been great really (this site and other resources) but I feel that he is leaving me to my own devices somewhat. |

Hi Rose. I don't really have any answers for you, just commiseration. When my dr called me at home in February to tell me that I definately had CD, she also just told me to look it up on the internet. I really think that many drs don't know very much about CD and don't want to bother educating themselves about it if they don't have to.
I think that if you feel bad that it is not good to wait 5 months to see some sort of dr. I can't believe that the letter saying that you have significant bone loss said to wait for 5 months to see the dr again. Couldn't you be doing something about this problem now if he/she chose to discuss it with you?? I don't know, I'm getting awfully put off by the medical community in the past few months.
Well, good luck with everything and thank goodness for the internet. Also, sorry for the anit-doctor tirade!!

Yes, I have been very frustrated by the medical community. A nurse practitioner finally listened to me when I went in for my yearly physical and ran the tests that found the parathyrodism and then sent me to an internist. I was so grateful that someone finally listened to me enough to run tests. I had just gotten a lot of "menopause" comments.
Thanks for your comments. I think I'll set up another appointment. |

I have CD, a sliding hiatial hernia, & chrons & lukemia cells in my blood But I've had hyprothyroidism since I was A teenager, I hate when a Dr. tells me to come back in 4 months or so. the last GI Dr. that I had never told me anything none of my test results that were really bad when I told him that I was leaving him he charged me $53.00 for my records. U really have to watch what your Dr's do so ur on top of things.
GOOD LUCK |
