OK, I have the GF thing down really good. I'm extrememly careful about what I eat and I have not eaten out since October. But for the last 3 weeks I've been really sick with the big D, cramps, etc. It is really severe! I think I have a problem w/ MSG, even if it is GF. But I don't know what else the problem could be. Any suggestions?! I am desperate! And Imodium has not been working!

Hi Danita,

Sorry to hear that Sad

What about dairy...has that ever caused problems? Dairy can cause D if you're lactose intol.

Gosh - I hope you get to the bottom of it (uhhhhh no pun intended Wink).

I was going to ask about dairy, soy, eggs or corn possibly causing you discomfort.

Is the immodium GF?

I hope that you get to feeling better soon!

I certainly hope so! Laughing

I avoid MSG because it gives me really bad headaches, so I can see it throwing your system out of whack too. You don't think it could be a stomach bug?

I do not think it is dairy - I do not consume much dairy and the little I have does not ever seem to bother me. At first I thought it was a bug, but it has gone on a bit long to be a bug and no one else is sick. My diet is pretty basic right now - meat, potatoes or rice and veggies - no sauces or things like that.

My husband says go to the doctor, but my family doctor thinks women complain too much and my GI doctor still thinks my gluten intolerance will pass. Rolling Eyes So I need to find a doctor in the Cleveland area that will actually help me figure things out!

I have not had a problem with corn or soy in the past - is that something that could just POOF - one day be a problem?

After we had the mono last year, that is when MrP's downward allergic response spiral started. He can't have corn or sulfites now.

I hope that you can figure the 'pattern' out soon!

I have narrowed it down to MSG! We listed EVERYTHING I was eating and went step by step thru anything questionable. We even went back on the calendar to list what days I had a problem and what I ate that day. It seems the GF chips I eat at lunch with my tuna have MSG. On days I had something else for lunch, I was not sick. I don't want to "prove" the MSG intollerance by eating it on purpose, but I've been fine since I quit eating the chips with my lunch.

Still need to find a DR who does not laugh at the mention of gluten intolerance!

I appreciate having this site as a sounding board and thanks for the help!

Sounds like you got to the bottom of things, congrats! I know lots of people with all sorts of intolerances to MSG.

danita, just for next time- last year I had SEVERE diarhea, lost around 25#'s . finally I asked the pharmacist for help. he told me to drink gatoraid and eat bananas. Saved my life. Everytime I came out of the bathroom I would go straight to the fridge and take a big old swig. the bananas did'nt help alot.
And with the allergies they come real quick. alot of stuff I've been readying talks about candidas and food allergies and it can all start from getting down sick and our immune systems are worn down. I believe I have tracked me and my daughters back to 2 years ago when we were down with broncitas so bad. good luck with it all carey
