Hi Melinda,

Yes CD can affect the liver. I found a few pieces of info for you.

I have not heard of swapping out a body part to cure you from CD. CD is genetic and is not a function of 1 part of the body (ie Liver). After seeing these reports - I would make sure he's very strict about his GF diet. Did the Doctors say HOW replacing his liver would cure the CD?

Do they feel CD damaged his liver or was it from other causes?

I hope hubby does well with his new liver. I wish him a speedy recovery!

He has never really responded to a gf diet, he did for about 3 wks but I really feel most of his problems are due to his liver diease and meds that he had been taking. Since Dec 04 his has had a very strict gf diet - no response. We will have to wait and see.

Hi,

It can take some people up to 1 or 2 years to really be fully healed. It's not uncommon for it to take several months for people to start to see changes from their diet. Everybody is different - it just takes longer in some. Take a look in the Diagnostic forum. There's a report that shows the #1 reason people to don't feel better is gluten ingestion. (Please, I'm not saying that he is not following his diet). It's getting in hidden forms. EVERYTHING must be checked for gluten. It took me a good 6 months before it removed all the hidden stuff from my diet.

Hi!

I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis w/cirrhosis and Ulcerative Colitis when I was in my teens. Last year (at age 32) the diagnosis for my liver changed to Primary Schlerosing Colangitis (PSC). An EGD was done last month to check for complications from the liver disease, when they found Celiac. I have not had a transplant but, would like to know more information when you find out!

Good Luck!
