Hello everyone,
I am new to this site too. My 3 yrd old daughter has celiac. We found out when she was 15 months old. It has been very difficult as she is a picky eater anyway. But i was looking for information on vitamins for her. Can anyone help? Thank you!! |

Hi Kit,
Welcome to the board!
I don't have any 1st hand experience with kids or kids vitamins LOL!! But I'll see what I can find. Are you looking for a all-around multi or something specific?
Maybe some of the others with kids will chime in _________________ Al

Hello Kit,
My name is Kristie. I have a 2 1/2 yr old son gluten and dairy free diet. The doctors can't seem to agree that he has celiac, even though, he did test positive nearly a year ago.
I don't know about you, but for me, it's really nice not knowing I'm alone in this. It can be quite frustrating at times.

Anyway, to answer your question. I use alot of herbal and natural products with Matthew. I'll be happy to share a list with you if you'd like. The one called "super food" is a vitamin and mineral supplement.
Right now with him fighting off an ear infection along with a run in with gluten, I am pushing the Vitamin C for the immune system. I give him a low acid cup of OJ in the morning, as well as a "C" chewable
I'll be happy to help in any way I can.

Hi Kristie,
From what I've seen testing on kids under 2 are not that accurate. I don't know the reason - but I have seen it several places.
Have they taken biopsies? _________________ Al

Hi Al,
| Quote: | | Have they taken biopsies? |
He has early on had 2 upper GI's and one lower GI. They have taken biopsies each time looking for various things, primarily Esnophilic Esophigitis (sp really messed up!) it wasn't until afterwards (months later) where the question of CD came about. At that point, they only drew up the blood work.

Now that I think about it, I miscalculated my dates a bit.. Back in Sept, when he turned 2yrs, we had skin allergy test taken, it then showed a sensitivity to wheat. So it was then his ped had him tested by bloodwork for CD. After the low pos was shown, she then sent us on to Childrens Hospital in Chicago where the doc there dismissed all previous findings and said he just simply had diarrhea of infancy. This is when I veared off on my own direction and took out all wheat and dairy from his diet, once I found all the hidden gluten and dairy in the products and deleted them from his diet, it was then I started to see huge improvements. We haven't been back to a doc for this matter since.
Oh Btw, Al, I've been meaning to ask you, I see you're from Wis... where abouts? I was born and raised near Janesville in a Hickville town called Edgerton. I have family in Watertown, Wis Dells,... well, pretty much all over Wis |

Hmmm and how long does infancy diarrhea last?? Let me guess - it was still going on?
There are some docs that will use "improvement on a GF diet" as a diagnosis of CD. Did it take both the gluten and the dairy to see improvement? Kinda like me...it hardly ever went to the doctor. When all this started I went more in that 1.5 years than probably I did in my 39 years total! After I went GF - I have not had to see a doc about those gastric problems since...imagine that!

I live is a little town called Ripon. About 20 miles due west of Fond du Lac. I have heard of Edgerton. I have been to Watertown & WI Dells. "It's a small world after all"! I know an other celiac family from Watertown. Their daughter comes to Ripon College. I meet them thru email due to our entering a cookie contest to raise gluten sensitivity awareness. You must be in the Chicago area? _________________ Al

Yup, and had no signs of going away. He was over the age of 2 by then.

It is as you say, He was off of Dairy for over 6 months prior to the gluten because 2 blood allergy test tested pos for Dairy, but he never got better.
Then we just tried taking him off of gluten by it'self for I think 2 weeks, we did see some improvement, but not great, but only 1 day off of both, his stools and pain started calming down by day 5, he was down to 2 b/m's... Normal b/ms and sleeping comfortably at night. I guess that means he grew out of the diarrhea of infancy

I have heard of Fond du Lac but not Ripon.

Actually, about 3 hours away in Peoria, IL. They just thought we'd get the best help at a Childrens Hospital I think back now at all the speciality foods I could have purchased for Matthew with what we spent on gas to get there and back. I'm not trying to knock anyone in the medical field.. after all, if It wasn't for doctors, I would have lost my husband, they literally brought him back to life! As well as saved both of my children as they were fighting for their lives to breath. It's just in some cases, they tend not to give parents the credit they deserve for the things the doctors don't see in that 15 minutes in the office. Ok.. I'll get off my lil vent
