I recently traveled home to Australia to visit family. Whilst back we decided to go & visit my sister who had recently moved to Alice Springs in the Aussie Outback.

Now for those of you who are not familiar with Australia, Alice Springs is smack, bang in the middle of the country. There are no rivers leading there and there is only water in the lake & dams for about a week after it rains. Which doesn't happen too often.....

We flew from Sydney to Alice Springs with Qantas. It was a fantastic flight with spectacular scenery along the way. Qantas we great with providing me a gluten free meal & I did not need to carry any extra food with me.
Alice Springs is a fairly large town (for the desert) and has approx. 26,486 people. I did not have any problems getting Gluten free foods while there. The have a large Woolworths Supermarket who stock Gluten Free bread, pasta, cereal & snacks. When you go to the deli they even list on the price points which ham slices are gluten free!

Whilst there we decided to take a 2 day trip to see Ularu (Ayres Rock) & Kata Juta (The Olga's). They were really are impressive! It was the middle of summer while we were there & temperatures soared above 45C, but it was worth all the sweat. We were blessed with fantastic sunrises & sunsets and a beautiful dinner in the desert. The 'Sounds of Silence' dinner is a must for any traveler visiting this majestic national park. I had left it a little late & called only 1 hour before we set out for dinner to request my Gluten Free meal. To my surprise they advised me it was no problem & to just identify myself to the chef who would cook me up a special meal!

All together we spent 7 days in the desert and I managed to stay Gluten Free the whole time. I would recommend the Aussie Outback to any traveller, even those who need to be Gluten Free.

You can read the full details of our trip on my site..
