| I am new at this, please bear with me! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could let me know their experiences in getting pregnant after being diagnosed (now I know why I was "barren" during my former marriage). What problems they´ve encountered, the possibilities of it if any and how to deal with it in case the outcome is gloomy... I´ve found that even dating is such a huge deal if the non-celiac really wants to have a family and she is most likely not to get pregnant. |

| Thanks aklap! I'll look into each of them very closely. I am just hoping I am able to get into them. Before I posted this, I wrote a similar item but apparently it never made it to the site!! Oh, well, hopefully I will also hear from other celiacs who are dealing with the same issues. |

I can tell you that I have realized I have celiac disease two years ago, and have been on a gluten free diet since. I am currently seven months pregnant with boy number three. I worry some about making sure I am eating enough and hope I am able to absorb the nutrients I need for the baby. One thing to share with you is there is hope, and my doctor says the baby is doing fine and very healthy. I wish you the best and hope this encourages you that there is hope. Take care. |

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences. Your diagnosis dates pretty much as far as mine so, I am hoping there is still a chance. Only thing, I am not even dating, hahaha!  . Hard to get pregnant that way. I will get back to you in about three months to check how you're doing, okay?

I have been trying to get pregnant since my marriage in 2003. I was diagnosed at 1 year of trying with celiac. My dr immediately assumed that was what was causing my infertility since all other tests came back normal. I have read - don't remember where - celiacs suffering from unexplained infertility take 6 months to one year on a gluten free diet before becoming pregnant. I am now on month 7.

Good luck in your attempts!! Yes CD/GS can cause miscarriages & fertility problems. Time frames vary with each person. We tried for many many years - no luck - we both have issues. I now wonder if mine was related to my Gluten Sensitivity.
I hope the GF lifestyle has been making you feel better. That by itself would probably make the whole process a bit better 
We hope to see a birth announcment here in the coming months

| I, too, have suffered from 3 miscarriages in 2 years. I am 40 years old (and I have had 2 children from my first marriage and before my CD diagnosis). I was remarried in 2003 and conceived on my honeymoon. I lost that baby at 11 weeks. I conceived several months later and lost that baby at 5 weeks. Then, I conceived on our anniversary and lost that baby at 12 weeks. I have become a virtual lab rat and have submitted to multiple invasive tests to determine the cause of the miscarriage. Since most of my 'regular' doctors don't know much about CD, they are insisting that my age alone has caused the miscarriages. I find that very hard to believe and I'm putting all my eggs (no pun intended) on celiac being the cause of all my problems. My CD specialist has told me that untreated CD can definitely lead to miscarriages. I have been diligently GF since December 2004 and my antibodies have tested negative since June. My anemia is under control finally with oral supplements alone. My severely osteoporotic bones seem to be healing as I'm now absorbing calcium and vitamin D. I feel great but now I'm not conceiving. Most of the OB's aren't optimistic about my chances of conception because I'm so 'damned old.' I'm sick of hearing it! Any advice/suggestions? |

Dear Monica,
I am really sorry you are going through such hard times. I´ve never been pregnant myself and I am almost forty...  I would recommend you check all the sites that Al posted as I am positive you will eventually run into something positive that will perhaps help you conceive and keep the baby (folic acid/vitamin B  ). It is a fact that CD does take a toll on our reproductive system and that the body takes a couple of years after going GF to get back in "shape" so-to-speak. I know "we" don´t seem to have the time given our age, but if you´re meant to have a baby, you will get pregnant no matter what!
Hang in there and let us know how things go.

The question was asked what are the chances of Celiacs conceiving after being recently diagnosed. I was diagnosed in August and have been GF since then. I just (15 minutes ago) learned that I am pregnant. So the chances must be pretty good!
Hoooooly crap this is a surprise. My 2 kids are 7 and 9, so there will be quite an age difference. Both my other kids were preemies (35 and 36 weeks, but that was pre-celiac diagnosis. It will be interesting to see if the experiance is different this time.
You guys are the first ones I have told - my husband doesn't even know yet!

WOW - we must be special if we're the 1st people to know. Just don't tell hubby you told us first....shhhhh....we won't tell either!

aztec I was diagnosed when I was 23 or 24 I cant remember (was so horribly sick I try to forget) Anyway I took about 10 months to even be healthy again then I got pregnant had a miscarriage(first pregnancy) at 4 months baby never even developed at all by this time. They told me to wait at least 4 months to try again, at 4 months I got pregnant again and she is now 17 and does not have celiac and very healthy pregnancy felt better than I ever had in my life while pregnant, my daughter has no symptems at all. She knows that it is possible that she will end up with it but says its ok cause I know what to do, and is looking at culinary school then to learn more about wheat free baking.
so there is hope for you---after you find a boyfriend that is LOL

My experiences -- years and years of infertility, then miscarriages after finally getting pregnant (4 total). And once on the GF diet, I got pregnant, and carried to full-term without a hitch.
It really happens!
