Hi! I don't post very often, but I read a lot of great info on this site. My good friend works for Whole Foods and was at a show last weekend for natural foods. She heard that Bob's Red Mill is going to start producing gluten free oats as soon as October. Has anyone else heard this??

I would just love that! I really like their products and am dying for some oatmeal!! If anyone hears anything, I would sure love it! Maybe I should email them to find out....

I haven't heard that. It would be great, though, since Bob's oat products are not GF now.

Have you been to the Bob's Red Mill store in Portland? It's like a GF candy store.

OK - I couldn't stand it and called Bob's Red Mill. The nice, well informed woman who answered the phone said that while they hope to one day offer GF oats, they have no immediate plans to do so.

Sorry. Sad

There are two places to buy gf oats right now. One is Gluten Free Oats our of Wyoming, and another grower is in Polson Montana. I think the price is around 5-6 dollars per pound plus shipping of course.

I guess they don't have a really clear idea of what is going on with these gluten free oats... I sent an email yesterday and the answer I got back said they were working to find safe and reliable sources of gluten free oats and are putting measures in place to ensure the safety and quality of these oats. I HOPE HOPE HOPE they do this! I've missed oatmeal so much.. not to mention oatmeal cookies!!! mmmmm

If I hear anything else, I'll pass it along.

No need for you to miss out on oats entirely. I use the ones from glutenfreeoats.com. See also this thread for more info.

Breaking news!!!

https://www.bobsredmill.com/GFOats.php

Quote:
Gluten Free Oats Now Available from Bob’s Red Mill

The gluten-free pioneer is first to offer nationwide distribution of pure gluten-free oats to stores

Milwaukie , Ore. –Bob’s Red Mill offers a breakthrough for gluten-intolerant consumers who crave oats with its introduction of Gluten Free Steel Cut Oats and Gluten Free Rolled Oats. The gluten-free pioneer is the first food company to provide pure, gluten free oats to grocery stores in unlimited quantities.

“Our gluten-free oats are the same as our standard oats in terms of taste, texture, and health benefits,” said Bob Moore, founder of Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods. “Now the entire family can enjoy oats – even the members living with gluten intolerance – without worry.”

Gluten-sensitive consumers have avoided commercially grown oats because they can be subject to cross-contact with gluten-containing grains during planting, harvest, transport, milling, and packaging.

To solve this dilemma and provide a beloved food (used for breads, cookies, cakes, breakfast and more) to the 3 million Americans with celiac disease, Bob’s Red Mill has sourced oats from more than 200 pedigree-seed oat farmers dedicated to growing pure oats.

Once harvested, the oats undergo testing at the supplier source to meet the R5 ELISA standards, a rigorous test for the presence of gluten. Only oats that pass this test are brought into Bob’s Red Mill. Batch testing is performed throughout processing and packaging in their state-of-the-art cereal testing laboratory.

Not only is Bob’s Red Mill able to ensure that their oats are pure, they can also ensure a lower price-point and wider availability than has previously been available. They are also the first gluten-free oat manufacturer to offer gluten-free steel cut oats and gluten-free rolled oats in stores and online.

“People with celiac disease often do not get enough fiber and iron in their diet, which is why pure oats are an excellent addition to the gluten-free diet,” said Shelley Case, B.Sc., R.D., renowned celiac disease dietician and author of Gluten-Free Diet: A Comprehensive Resource Guide.

“Gluten-sensitive consumers will love the wonderful flavor and texture of these oats. What a tasty, versatile addition to a gluten-free diet,” said Carol Fenster, Ph.D., author of Gluten-Free Quick & Easy .

I just called them to ask. The oats will not be officially available until 9/1, and then it will take some time for the distrubutors to pick them up and move them out to the stores. Note - you will not see them on the Bob's red mill GF list until after 9/1.

I am really interested in how much these babies will cost. Seems like they could bring the price way down from what we have been paying from the other mfr's.

I am paying over $6 for a box 1.5 pounds now (not Bob's) I love them, but I am always looking for less expensive product that is GF and just as good as something i now use.

I picked some of these up yesterday. I paid $7.95 for a 2 pound bag, which is about $4 cheaper than the last time I bought another brand.

If you do decide to buy some, make sure you get the one with the lavendar label with the Gluten Free symbol on it. The non-GF one has a blue label so if you are not paying attention it would be easy to get the wrong one.

I have not been able to find these locally yet. I have asked them to call and order us some of the GF ones, but yet they have not been able to obtain them yet from their suppliers.

I have been searching on the net for the GF oats, but only pull up the ones from Bob's. Their shipping is higher than other places.
