I was just wondering if anyone has ever had constant UTI infections and found it related somehow to celiac disease? The Docs are really searching to find out why I've had so many problems and they are clueless about CD. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas for me.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi Prayermum,

Welcome! Sorry to hear about your UTI's. EEEK!

I did a quick google on UTI's & Celiac, one thing I found:

I'll post more if I find it!

I have been having what I thought were UTI's this last year - 4 of them. But when I finally got tested, no bacteria. So my doc thinks it's either:

- hormones/estrogen dominance affecting my pelvic area by making things swell
- endometriosis
- intersitital cystitis

But if you are on antibiotics, you must have bacteria in the tests. How frustrating! For me, I have been using progesterone cream again the last month and this month I didn't get the classic symptoms I got the last two months in a row (right around ovulation) so it might be hormones for me. God, I'm sick of hormones. And I'm only 33... Sad gee, only 17 more years of this!!! (after only 20 years of this... well, I guess I'm more than halfway there!)

Not sure if this will help, but every time I accidently get Gluten, I ALWAYS get a UTI within two to three days. It usually is a result of hidden glutens. I usually deal with it by drinking a lot of water and cranberry juice (100%).

One more thought:

The problem with the UTI is from the undigested protein more than an infection, but it feels the same.

I would suggest trying to find the hidden glutens in your diet.

I use Diflucan for the yeast infections and I use on a daily basis a med called Nitrofurantin. haven't had a UTI since. Good luck.

I don't know about CD and UTIs. But, some people with CD also have an IgA deficiency (Selective IgA Deficiency), which may cause more chance of mucous membrane type problems (including URIs, asthma, allergies, sinus problems, etc., maybe even an increased incidence of yeast infections).
