We have been invited to a wedding in May. My celiac Dad is not going, but my "allergic to corn" hubby is going.
Is it appropriate to stick a little note in the RSVP, informing them of the food problem?
Normally, we would just not worry about it, because the "beef" choice is usually safe, and we just ask the server to leave off the gravy. But this is a Chinese/American wedding, and I'm afraid that the "beef" and "pork" choices listed will include more seasoning/spices than usual.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to be tacky. Hubby can always eat before and after. He's done that before. (I know you have, too.) |

If the food is Chinese, your hubby probably can't eat the food. Unless you know the couple very well, I don't think that I would even attempt the food changes.
Your hubby could take his own meal? I do not even know if there would be anything that he could drink at the wedding.
Of course, that is just my opinion if it is worth anything. LOL _________________

I would eat before or afterwards. Worrying about trying to keep everybody safe will just cause more stress for yourself and the couple. Hopefully there's something he can drink that you know is safe. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

If I were very close to the couple, I would mention it directly to them. If I were not, then I would probably choose not to eat. Since they will pay per meal (if it's an actual sit down dinner thing, not a buffet), I would make a note in the RSVP that while you will be attending, because of food sensitivities you will not be eating, so that they don't have to pay for a meal for you).

Rach! that was beautifully written!!
My oldest DD is getting married in June. Everything is going to be gluten free. EXCEPT, we will have crackers for the cheese on each table. This way they won't put the crackers in the buffet with double dipping.
MrP and the mother of the groom will have plates made before that will be placed aside for them. (I found out that the MOTG has many similar and also different allergies than MrP, so this is going to be FUN> LOL) _________________

Thanks for the replies.
It is a "sit-down" meal. The RSVP asked for a choice of beef or pork.
I'm tending to think that the beef dish will probably be fairly straightforward, roast or prime rib or something like that, but to be safe, I'll take Rach's advice, and enclose a note saying DH will not be eating because of food intolerances. Then, if it turns out to be safe, he can share with me, and we can go out to eat after the reception.
I know that under "normal" circumstances, this young couple would bend over backwards to make sure that everyone was taken care of, but they are planning a wedding (long distance for the bride) while studying for advanced degrees, and planning for the groom to move, and change schools, after the wedding.
They really don't need another thing to worry about.
Again, thanks for the help. |
