I need help. I've been almost GF for 3 years because it was thought I was celiac due to range of symptoms. However, I was just diagnosed as mildly allergic to wheat with a specific IgE test. Had a comp celiac panel done at the same time:
(tTG, AB, IGA) <3 (reference <5 negative)
Endomysial not done due to negative tTG
Titer not done for same reason
IGA serum 207 (reference 81-463)
tTG, AB, IGG not performed
Am I to take this (and three other like results over the years) to mean that I just have an allergy and not celiac?
I'm also apparently allergic to corn, soy and peanuts. Can I still eat these because my allergy is mild?
Also, in a fit of rebellious anger, I ate mozzerella sticks with wheeeeeaaaat coating twice and had nothing more than a little bloating and some acidy belly. Confused! |

Hi J,
Welcome to the board!
If you've been GF for 3 years - these test results will be skewed most definitely. The only way you're going to know is to go back on gluten and get these tests done again. Have you had a full celiac panel done before?
Judging by your sx's (symptoms) to the cheese logs (sorry, it's a WI term ) it would make you wonder. In Celiac, going by outward sx's is never a good idea. Damage can occur without feeling anything. Some people have Silent Celiac [no outward, apparent sx's at all]. Does dairy bother you?
Testing positive on the IgE test for a true Wheat Allergy is certainly possible. A wheat allergy is different than celiac. Celiac is an autoimmune response to gluten. However...the end result for both is almost the same. You have to remove wheat from your diet [the same goes for your other foods too - sorry ] We have to remove not only wheat, but also barley, rye & oats because of the gluten content. Gluten is a protein found in the items I mentioned.
One thing you'll find...these fits of anger...will only hurt yourself and make the matter worse Please try to find another outlet, OK. How 'bout Kickboxing? As you've probably seen with being GF, this stuff isn't always easy.
Let me ask you this...how have you been feeling while GF? Do you feel better? Do you notice a difference? Is that difference worth the effort you put into your diet/lifestyle?
