Hi, I am on the odd end of Celiacs. I have had it for so long and it was misdiagnosed for years as most people are but after losing a lot of weight I started to gain a lot of weight. My office has been the restroom for a few years now. I just cant lose the weight though. Being diabetic and celiac is really hard. One or the other usually suffers..... I was wondering has anyone had that surgery... Gastric Bypass... would it help Celiacs? Maybe I am grasping at straws but if they bypass the small intestine then wouldn't you be able to eat small amounts of gluten? Sassy |

Hi Sassy,
Hmmm, interesting question. I don't know much about the Gastric Bypass...but if your body does not tolerate gluten...I don't think it matters. A GF diet is a zero tolerance diet. Unlike a diabetic diet - where you can balance things out if need be - there is no balancing gluten.
You said one or the other (disease) usually suffers...why do you say that...can you give an example?? _________________ Al

Sorry to hear that. The swelling part sounds kind of scary. Do you have trouble breathing along with that?? Maybe you are having an anaphaxic reaction to something. Which is not something to mess around with - as I'm sure you know. Do you know what you ate that caused that? It's possible you maybe reacting to other foods besides gluten. Soy, dairy, peanuts, shellfish. It's very common for celiac's to react to other foods...many times dairy.
It might be best if you strip back your diet to fresh fruits & veggies, plain meats, chicken to see if you start to feel better. You might want to keep a food diary to help sort all that out. It's difficult, but can be very helpful.
Good luck!! I hope things start to turn around!! _________________ Al
