Hey Kmara, and welcome! Well, I always say what have you got to lose? In the worst case you spent money on some food that didn't really do anything. If you find that the diet helps you might not even want to have the tests run. So I'd give it a shot and see what happens. Just remember, you must be on a regular diet (ingesting gluten) before the doc runs any more blood tests or the endoscopy. Otherwise the tests will be inaccurate. There's a whole bunch of links over here that might help too. Good luck, and keep us posted! Smile

Welcome to the board!

Specifically what blood tests did they run? Did they do all 4 celiac blood tests? It is not uncommon for ill-informed doctors to run the wrong ones. Can you get a paper copy of your results, along with the lab ranges?

I would never commit myself to the GF diet without a dianosis. This is a diet that required 100% commitment and vigilance at all times. There is no cheating ever. Period. I think MD's are quick to adopt the "try it out" attitude because they have absolutely no idea what it entails to go GF. I would want to get a good diagnosis before jumping in with both feet.

I also want to welcome you to the board!

I second everything that Cruelshoes stated in the above post. Being gluten free is less of a diet and more of a lifestyle and from experience I suggest you get all the answers you can before you adopt it.

At first I admit I wasn’t too pleased with her suggestion and felt that going GF was an awful big commitment without being sure, and just makes it more difficult to test in the future. After doing a bit more research though I’m thinking instead that if gluten sensitivity is really more of a continuum, maybe just jumping into the diet and seeing how it goes seems reasonable – and perhaps something I wouldn’t have the will to do if the biopsy tests came back negative.

Hi kmara,
If you can stay on a gluten diet until you are tested, then you should.
After you get the results, if you come up negative you have the option of at least trying the diet (while heeding the caveat above: it's all or nothing), and seeing if going GF makes sense for you and your body. If positive, then you don't really have an option, and welcome to the GF lifestyle!

I'm a believer in the "continuum" hypothesis, and went GF without a biopsy or positive blood test. I am convinced without a doubt that gluten was and still is my problem, positive tests or no.

Let us know how we can help!
