|
|
Now that I've got all the technical stuff outta the way on navigating the Wonderful World of Disney, we can discuss it here or in that post too [some have PM'ed me not wanting to "mess up" the Have a Magical Day post.
Over all we had a good time. We were able to move about without much pain and discomfort [both Peg and I have foot issues]. TG for that!! There is LOTS and LOTS of walking involved. We did not get a scooter, although it was tempting!
I finally got Peg to go on the Rock n Roller coaster at MGM. Peg is not a big scary ride person, but she loved it after it was done. She was quite nervous while waiting. Try as I might I could not get her to go on the Hollywood Tower of Terror or Misson Space [the extreme version]. Both rides were pretty cool!!.
The Fast Pass feature is a wonderful invention. You go get your fast pass, it tells you a time to come back for little or no waiting. Generally you come back about 2 hrs later. We did the coaster with about a 10 minute wait. Normal line was 50-60 minute wait. The thing to do is go to the attraction and get your fast pass right away when you get there. Becareful on how you get your fast passes, it won't let you get several rides all in one cluster. It knows [since you have to insert your Disney Card] and tracks you.
Soarin' was another great "ride".
Another activity we really liked was the Animation Academy where you get to have a Disney Artist teach you to draw a Disney character in 10 minutes. We did it 3 times. We each have 2 Mickey's and a Goofy. I have pictures of those that I'll put in the website.
Animal Kingdom is cool. That park kind of got short changed this trip. We got to most attractions there except for the rollercoaster ride
We were disappointed in the fireworks show at Epcot. They weren't as spectacular as they were the last time. Not many lasers this time.
Magic Kingdom...hold no real fascination for us. Maybe if we had kids, it might be different.
Overall MGM is our favorite park.
I'll work on a picture website with some of our pictures. Here's some to keep you laughing....Al n Peg thru the years at Disney....
EDIT: Here's the picture website

Please feel free to ask any questions...specially the bathroom locations. Peg know them all...even the secret hidden ones Peg found that caffine is a great diuretic _________________ Al

Woah! Two amazing write-ups Al! Thanks so much for all the info, I'm sure they'll make excellent resources!
Oooo, I'm jealous. I wanted to hit up the Disney Academy as well, but we ran out of time. If I had it my way we would've skipped Sea World and spent more time at MGM. Tell Peg if it makes her feel any better I screamed like a little girl on Tower of Terror (I don't do roller coasters either).
I was curious...were you able to try any of the fast food stands? The guys just standing on a street corner? (It's been over 20 years since I've been to Disney World...maybe they don't have street vendors anymore). _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

They still have carts out on the streets. Mostly they are ice cream vendors. They use Nestle products. I did not check into those as I try to keep my dairy to a low level. I didn't that week, so I didn't want to add to it by getting ice creme! _________________ Al

Thank you so much for posting all this info. I had NO IDEA that Disney was so GF friendly! It amazes me that they had GF buns for your burgers! Awesome! _________________

Awww... thanks for the pictures! That was fun... it really makes me want to go again! (I LOVE DISNEYLAND!)
By the way, your "upside down tree" is a Baobab Tree aka - the Tree of Life.

Thanks Jenn!
I just couldn't remember what the real name of the tree was [and didn't feel like researching it at the time ]. I just remember the Safari guide calling it the Upside down tree _________________ Al

Yeah, well - I will have to say I actually learned something from TV - go figure. That eleven part series on the Discovery channel, Planet Earth had a clip about the Baobab Tree. They set up a camera that showed one after the first huge rain storm of the year. It was such a beautiful shot that it really stuck with me... who knew my "useless" knowledge would come in handy so quickly! _________________ Cheers!

Al,
Thanks for sharing your Disney trips.... enjoyed the pics
My husband and I have been there the past two years, and will go again in August, we stayed at the Carrbean Beach resort and loved the fact that they catered to my GF need. I had pancakes... yeah, had pasta, yeah, and the chef even made me an apple pie... and my own special rolls... it was a wonderful experience.... at Epcot, the steak house in Canada totally honored my menu.... you could cut the steak with a butter knife...
When I go to other restaurants throughout the year, I can't trust the staff, sometimes they make me feel like I am bothering them, so when Disney catered to me, I just sat there at first and cried.... my husband isn't celiac, but he tries so hard to make me feel special... one restaurant we got up and left, because of the attitude of my condition....
we are going this August 10 through 18, 2008....
take care,
bobbie santiago

Hi Bobbie,
Welcome to the board!
Glad you enjoyed the pix. Yeah, I'd go back to Disney in a heartbeat. It's so nice not to have to worry so much about eating.
Disney in August...you are one tough cookie!! Way too hot for me!!!
Have fun!! _________________ Al
