*disclaimer--this is not ment as a complaint or looking for problems.. rather curiosity and wonder*
Thinking out loud here.. it must be due to lifestyle change, and chasing a high needs child may have a bit to do with it. But in the last 4 years, I have dropped down 7 sizes in clothing. Just in the past year alone, I have dropped 3-4 sizes. About this time last year I was giving some jeans that did NOT fit me.. I dug them out a couple of days ago, and most of them are too big!
(very very thankful here!!!!)
When I was over weight, I was just miserable!!! I just couldn't stand myself, and now even though the lbs are coming off obviously.. I'm still pretty disproportioned. I must be a size or two smaller in waist than hips. I'd like to work a bit on making things a little bit more even
In many ways, I feel guilty.. I know it'll soon be a year that I've been GF, but other than cutting out dairy for the 1st year of my ds's life (I nursed him CF) and then going GF, I haven't really tried to lose weight... it must be all that fast food I dropped. lol
I keep telling myself, not to take advantage of this blessing, and *try* to live and eat healthy... but darn, I sure have a hard time staying away from the chips and candy bar
Has anyone else lost tons of weight without much effort, and not know why? Oh, and btw... back when I was super heavy.. I could just look at a pie and gain 5lbs So, I don't take this lightly... and again am very thankful, and also full of wonder. _________________ Kristie M.

I lost 25 pounds at first and then I just lost size without anymore weight coming off. I think that was the bloating from the fast food and sodas along with the wheat coming out of the diet.
I also think that we have to take into account that the food made from scratch is more filling and sticks with you longer than the more processed food. (I remember when a whopper, fries and coke was nothing to woof down........today, I don't think that I could put that much food in my stomach without need of a stomach pump. LOL).........not complaining either.
The food preperation may be more time consuming, and a pain in the neck at times when all of the flour bins are low and you have to start mixing flours to make 'the flour' that you need, but I am really happy with the changes that we have made in our diet by going GF.
(disclaimer*****Okay, I can't claim to being 'really' happy with the new changes in our diet just yet..........other than MrP seems to be doing better......I still have a big learning curve on how to keep the corn and sulfites out of the diet. I have gone 4 days without a mess up now if I can just stick to those ingredients and not foul up the diet change. LOL) _________________

The chips and candy bars are OK in moderation. I've dropped some weight too, but not as much as you. Most of it was lost when I was trying to get fit for my wedding. I really need to start hitting the gym before the holidays.
I think MrsP is right: it might be due to the lack of bloating. It could also be that your body is actually processing food normally now, so it stopped storing everything.
Oddly enough, whenever I eat fast food I stay fuller, longer. It's the home-made meals that make me get a snack later.  _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

that's great! I couldn't even tell you how much I lost, or what I weigh now. Other than the last time I weighed myself (over a year 1/2 ago) it was close to 50lbs. If I had to guess, I am probably at or below my ideal weight, however as I mentioned earlier, I need to tone things up and level things out.
Now, if I could just find a way to take from the hips and add to the chest.. I'd be one happy gal! _________________ Kristie M.

I think for people who start the GF life who were overweight to begin with, and then lose alot of weight is because most overweight people eat much more junk and fast food than those who maintain normal weight levels. These foods are calorie and fat dense so you can overdo calorie amounts very easily.
The GF diet forces you to eat simply and nutritiously and probably in lesser amounts because fruits and veggies fill you up faster and for longer. Once you stop eating all that processed stuff with the 5 pounds of salt that they throw in, your body starts releasing all that fluid it was holding also. Your body starts to burn stored fat and once that happens, it keeps on going.
Get yourself a pedometer and keep track of how much walking you do chasing after your kids.....it will surprise you! That, coupled with a GF diet,
are probably the reason you are shrinking....in a good way! |

| It's weird, I have always been underweight, all my life (and believe me, I'm not bragging... I am tall for my weight and shopping for pants as a kid was almost impossible). Looking at my parents though, I know it's normal, genetically. But I seemed to actually put on a few pounds when I went off wheat once (and maybe I am now too, now that I am off wheat again, but I don't own a scale.) For some reason, when I eat wheat I am always REALLY hungry a few hours later. I think because it just goes right through me, it seems to me that none of it sticks. I mean, I've never lost weight eating a bunch of pasta, but like I said it makes me really hungry, like I hadn't eaten at all. |

I too had lost weight. Almost immediately when I removed wheat/gluten from my diet, I dropped 5lbs and it seems like it was overnight. Then without trying, I lost an additional 5lbs. The weight just kept coming off.
However, since Christmas, I've put on, I think, all 10lbs (I won't dare get on the scale). We've had a lot of stress in our lives of late and I'm a total stress eater. Love that ice-cream!
Too many chocolate bars and natural ice-cream. Oh yeah, popcorn with lots of butter too. All safe and oooh sooo gooood!
The stress has passed, but I'm stuck with the lbs. I'm hoping to get back to some healthier eating again (thanks to Lent - no meat and NO SWEETS!) and shed those extra pounds. |

My hubby, was diagnosed last summer, and was thin all his life as well, but he put on any weight since going on the Gluten free diet, ( which disappoints him greatly, as he'd love to put on a few pounds) _________________ As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never point the wrong way ~ An old Irish Blessing! |

Yes, i too have lost a ton of weight over 30lbs., and being gluten free i have lost more inches. i dont feel hungry all the time like i did before. i hate it when i cook this huge meal from scratch and everyone only takes a little and we are all full. either they think my cooking is really bad or they fill up as fast as i do!! but yes i fill up faster and am not hungry all the time, and dont have a bunch of weird cravings anymore--thank-God, people always thought i was pregnant when i wasnt!! i sure looked and acted like it though. glad all that is over with, would rather be getting smaller and feeling healthier |

That's great to hear!
For me, I think there's a bigger reason other than just being GF. To date, I have lost now over 100lbs. I assure you, other than being very busy with the kids.. I am not trying. I'm still a rather large eater We're thinking now that the health problems I've encountered could be playing a rather big roll. I was pretty over weight, and could still stand to tone up in hips, but I am trying harder now not to allow any more lbs to drop. I'm not sure that it's helping much, but it's fun trying! _________________ Kristie M.

Thanks Os. I gotta say, it does feel pretty good to go from a size 24 down to a 8. _________________ Kristie M.

You're one up on me. I don't think I'll ever fit in single digits. Stupid Polish/Italian hips. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={
