A hang over... that's exactly how I feel some days. Especially today, today hasn't been a good day at all! I feel more weak and tired and I feel more brain fog. I still have that usual abdominal pain too.
Another question... since I had the Celiac panel done yesterday and I have my colonoscopy and EGD next Wednesday it would be ok to start trying a Gluten Free diet wouldn't it? It wouldn't throw off a biopsy that would be taken next Wednesday, would it??
I'm afraid that my Dr. won't want to do the biopsy. When I asked her to do the panel she basically told me that she didn't think there was a chance that I could have this. But she said that if, on the slim chance, that there was something from my panel that is indicative of Celiac that she would do the biopsy. I'm afraid that she won't want to do it if my blood work doesn't show anything. I would rather have the biopsy done now than find out later that we should have done it and the test is over.
1 more question..... My GI doctor told me that people with Celiac usually always have Diarrhea and since I'm not having problems with that, that is why she doesn't think there's a chance I could have this. Now, from my research a person doesn't always have Diarrhea with this disease, correct? My PC thinks this too. A person doesn't have to have any GI symptoms to have Celiac right?
And, I may go through all this and it may not be Celiac at all... but after 9 months of not feeling well I'm willing to try ANYTHING to feel better!
Thanks for your help!

My ds #1 symptom is Diarrhea, but because of his DX, we were able to link my dd's and my own life history of Chronic Constipation to being Gluten intolerant. We have been GF for over a year now and all of our symptoms doctors couldn't find cures for have stopped.
You'll find that doctors still have a lot to learn! At times, it comes down to doing what you know to be better for yourself. _________________ Kristie M.

Hi Rachel,
Sorry to say, it sounds like your gastro is still stuck in the dark ages with it comes to CD. Grrrrrrrrrrr Is it possible to get a new gastro?
Classic sx's of CD are not typical sx's. Most docs think you have to be skinny to have CD - WRONG most are overweight. Only 50% of dx'ed celiacs have had gastro sx's of any kind...that tell's you something. Many docs are so far behind on this, it's not funny...and who suffers because they don't keep up? We as patients do!! That's where doing your research pays off. If I had not being researching I'd still be feeling like crap...or dead.
Keep fighting!! If you keep running in the brick walls with testing OR testing is inconclusive...you can always do a GF trial and see how you feel.
No, you do not want to go GF until you've have your scopes done or all testing for that matter.
Gosh...sorry you have to deal with this...keep searching. I do think you are on the right track tho.
Let us know how things go!! _________________ Al

Hi Rachel,
These are some good articles to print out for your gastro [if he/she is accepting of this type of of info. There are others, but this is a good start.
Do you know how many CD patients your gastro has or ever dx'ed? I might be an interesting question to ask...
CD - More common than you think (2002) - http://www.aafp.org/afp/20021215/2259.pdf
Detecting Celiac Disease in Adult Patients (PDF) -(2005) http://jaapa.com/issues/j20051001/pdfs/celiac1005.pdf
